I want to teach.

My long-term goal is to teach. So I was wondering, are there any opportunities for undergraduates to teach at Princeton? I know that a friend of mine at Dartmouth is teaching chemistry (laboratory of general chemistry) there, so I was wondering if there are any similar opportunities at Princeton as well.

It’s so amusing how everybody complains about teachers who don’t have doctorates and yet everybody wants to have a chance to teach before they get their doctorate. heh.

Unfortunately though, I don’t have an answer to your question.

There is a teaching certificate program at Princeton and also plenty of chances to participate in community service offcampus (I’m sure you could find a teaching opportunity there).

Yeah, I’ve heard it’s really great.

debate_addict, HS teachers don’t need a degree from HYPS in order to get a good job. if your stats are good enough to get into Princeton, they are probably good enough to get a full scholarship elsewhere. a free ride at a lesser known school might be a better choice than HYPS for a future teacher, since you wouldn’t have any debt to pay off.

just an idea :)

But does he want to be a high school teacher or a college professor? I’m confused.

I think debate_addict is talking about being a college professor…or at least having some experience teaching college classes, because he/she referenced a friend teaching at Dartmouth. Possibly a TA position or something of that nature.

Undergrads are teaching assistants in orgo: http://www.princeton.edu/pr/pwb/02/1118/</a> This course has been imitated at many other universities.

Yes, my friend at Dartmouth is a TA, and I was indeed referring to collegiate teaching.

oh i see. sorry, i misunderstood.

There are undergraduate TA positions available, at least in the engineering courses. It really depends on the department. Even so, the undergraduate TA have limited responsibilites. They don’t teach so much as help the students with their homework.
