I want to transfer later, which school should I choose?

<p>I’m accepted by UCLA, WPI(with 25000 fa/year) and Carleton college
something happened to my family and it become a little bit hard to me to read in Carleton college or UCLA for 4 years.</p>

<p>here are the questions:

  1. Which school should I enroll if I want to transfer to top 20 school with at least 20000 fa?
  2. I know GPA is very important, but do which college I attended matters? I mean is 3.8＋in Carleton college more competitive than 3.8＋in WPI?
  3. I heard that instate transfer is easier, is this true?</p>

<p>Before proceeding with this idea, you need to know that (1) very few transfer students are awarded merit aid; and (2) “top 20” schools accept vanishingly few transfer students.</p>

<p>“In-state transfer” is easier in certain specific circumstances, but these are generally linked to transfer agreements between community colleges and public universities. Being at WPI or Carleton isn’t going to help you transfer into those schools’ respective state universities.</p>

<p>The schools you’ve been accepted to are quality institutions - why do you think you can do better elsewhere?</p>

<p>I konw transfer to top 20 school is not easy, but I have to……
If I go to Carleton or UCLA, I have to transfer because the cost, and if I go to WPI I will want to go top engineer schools.</p>

<p>Which school should I choose, do you have any suggestions? thx~</p>

<p>You don’t “have to” go to a top-20 school. More to the point, if you’re not accepted to a top-20 school, you can’t go to a top-20 school. Predicating the next two years of your life on the vanishingly slim chance that you get accepted at one is setting yourself up for disappointment.</p>

<p>You need to attend a school you can afford for four years. That suggests that you should attend WPI, which is a perfectly good engineering school.</p>

<p>Thank you for your advice. I konw my thought is silly, but it’s very frustrating. I was dreaming go to great schools like UCLA and Carleton, I did my best and I was very excited when I got accepted. But suddenly, lots of things changed and I can’t choose the schools I dreamed. That’s why I am trying to transfer to a top school with FA. I do not want to be resigned to this fate.</p>
