I want to transfer to USC School of Cinematic Arts

Hi, my name is Ericka. Right now I’m doing my GEs in a community college in Glendale so I can transfer to a 4 year university and my dream school is USC! I’m kind of new in this country (I’m a resident and lived my whole life in Mexico) so I’m still learning about the transfer process! I’m looking for advices and things I should do to increase my chances of being accepted! I’m volunteering at an animal shelter, taking my 3 semesters of foreign language, I play guitar, taking acting classes and I want to start taking krav maga. What else should I be doing? I’m starting to make short films for my portfolio, I have a youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiP62j33C6Ef0VDa5J528qQ/feed please if you can help me with advices, that’d be great! What GPA would be acceptable? should I be doing something else in my spare time? What about LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION? IM SUPER LOST WITH THOSE!!! who should write the letters of recommendation?? Thanks for your time!

Most of the answers to your questions can be found online.

From a quick look at the site, your animal shelter volunteering isn’t going to help. Work on your writing, take solid, challenging humanities courses and get the very best GPA possible. You will be competing against very accomplished students.

Thank you very much! I read the application procedure. I need to improve my portfolio and my writing!

I appreciate your help a lot, thanks!!! @katliamom

Also, do you know if they value volunteer work? Do they care about it? If so, which volunteer work would they be looking for? Thanks!!

Honestly, this is such a specialized program that they’re interested in one thing: your potential to impact the film industry. If you’re going to volunteer, do it with an organization that’s somehow related to the industry. Otherwise, work on your film, write, study art, film history, literature, philosophy and perhaps relevant software.
