I was rescued!

I adopted a young schnauzer yesterday. My sole remaining schnauzer and I were both middle aged ladies hanging around a house that was quiet, clean and orderly. We were growing older quickly and needed some youth. Enter Sadie with all her puppy spirit and I’ve laughed more in the last 48 hours then I have for a year. She needs us almost as bad as we needed her.

Life was too sane, so I went and did something about it…
For any of you that havent read “I rescued a human today” please see below.

I rescued a human today - Janine Allen

I rescued a human today.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the
kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my
kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t
want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter
keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only
have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and
side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck;
she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to
assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her
arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I
would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who
haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

I’m so happy for you all! You and your doggies are all LUCKY!

sistersunnie, that’s beautiful! I’m very glad for you, and for the puppy that rescued you. Have a great weekend together.

How wonderful, SS! Enjoy your furry family members. My dog’s name is Sadie, too. :)

How lovely!

Awwwww, such a sweet truth…my pup is rescuing me every day too! Nothing like a wake up kiss and hug from my nutty puppy and then playful antics all day long. It’s hard going to work sometimes! I wish I could sneak her under my desk.

Awesome.

We are in the hunt to be rescued too!

Wonderful. Enjoy your life together. Much Joy!

Congratulations on being rescued!

That’s so beautiful. Most on here know I’m an avid advocate for rescues/adoptions rather than purchases. I want to find this poem somewhere and hang it.

Congrats on the newest addition to your family.

We have a rescued schoodle - schnauzer/poodle - and adopting him was one of the best decisions I have ever made! I loved the car sticker that says “Who Rescued Who?”

Love this! Congrats to all of you!

That had me in tears. I will send it to my D as we are looking at a dog for her on Saturday through the rescue we adopted from in the past. D needs some rescuing after losing her longtime best friend (her horse, William) a year ago on Christmas eve. She needs someone to need her again (she has lots of clients that need her, but that’s different).

Congratulations on the new member of your family!

Congratulations! I love that you adopted a dog in need of a home. Enjoy!

This made me smile (and miss my mini schnauzer from years ago…)

One of my kids found a dog on the street and took him to a shelter. She checked back. Found he’d been there many times before and that he was going to be killed. So she took him home. Not a puppy. A full grown, somewhat older big dog who’d been tied up outside, probably as a guard dog. Sweet natured and a good friend who loves belly rubs. He’s now dying of cancer but thanks to my kid he’s finally had a good life and he gets to go out as a dog should.

Congratulations!!! We “need” our animals as much they need us. May you have many years of love and happiness from all your dogs.

Lerg, that’s beautiful. You raised a wonderful D.

I like her.
