I found out I won a $10,000 Franklin Scholarship a couple of weeks ago. I just filed FAFSA, and it said I am eligible for a $4,800 Pell Grant, a $750 ACG Grant, and a Pennsylvania State Grant (amount to be determined near May). My question is, do I report this scholarship to the financial aid office at my college (Indiana University of Pennsylvania)? It’s $2,000 over five years. Would this affect my aid, like the Pell and ACG?

Congratulations.

You do have to report the scholarship to your school. It won’t affect your pell grant. It will reduce your need. Most schools will reduce loans or self help (like work study) or your “gap” before it affects any grant money.

Congratulations giftedgothic, keep going after those scholarships even after you are in college!!

Thanks, swimcatsmom and freecycle. When should I report it? I have a ton of scholarships that are still pending, and I have a pretty good chance at winning some of them. I don’t want to bug the FA office, especially when half of them are student workers who have to redirect me to fifteen different people.
