D1 has always expressed an interest to go into investment banking since high school. As a junior in college it is very important for her to get an analyst internship with a major bank this summer in order to get a permanent position when she graduates. To have a good resume she worked in school, did internship when she was studying abroad instead of having more time to travel. She started to work on her resume over Thanksgiving, and spend a whole week going to 8 meet and greet events in NYC. This last week while kids were at mixers after the rush, she has locked herself in her room prepping for her interviews(we practiced a lot on Skype). Between yesterday and today she had 10+ interviews and 4 evening events. She called me this after that she got offers from 2 top banks for sales and trading, and she can’t believe they would actually pay her that much money (it’s not really). She thinks there maybe other offers. She has a month to decide.

We would like to take some credit for her, but it is really her. She got those 2 offers without any connections. She was given so many brain teaser questions at those interviews, I was amazed she was able to answer them. I know she is not the first kid to ever get a real job, but she is our first. We are so happy for her.

excellent news, oldfort !! so happy to hear it, particularly when jobs are so hard to come by for everone, least of all recent college grads !! I am sure that you are just so proud and you should be

Hopefully I will have similar news for my recent college grad !

Thank-you. I really wanted to share this with my virtual friends (since I spend so much time here). I am going to post here someday when my kids get engaged, married, grandchildren (lets hope not).

Congratulations to Oldfort Daughter! These are wonderful opportunities for her. Getting this kind of offer now shows how well prepared she is and also that she knows her stuff! Terrific news…and worth bragging and bursting about!!!

How wonderful, Oldfort! I think what is most impressive is her willingness to take input from you and prepare the way she did. Oh, you are going to sleep well tonight!
