I was getting a white screen for much longer when it was trying to load mail. It’s still slow, but maybe a smidge less so.
I really like this forum. If there is an IOS/device issue, people are talking about it here.
I have heard the advice that don’t go more than two updates past what your phone came with … ie, iphone 6 came with ios8 so ios10 should be about it. It makes sense to me, that older devices might have issues with newer software, but I’m certainly no expert.
We will NOT update any of the phones/devices here. You can delete any update that has been downloaded to your phone (assuming you have not applied it). It will still get downloaded automatically from time to time, but I check about once a week and keep deleting it.
^ thanks
It drives my H nuts that I will never update. If I have what I want and need – so how are they too say I need something else?
I have the most recent device iPhone 8+ and have had zero issues with the new iOS. Installed 11.2 yesterday with no issues. It is difficult to maintain the compatibility of older devices and newer operating systems. Agree with advice above to discontinue the updates if you have an older phone.
My phone was glitchy and a full restore didn’t fix it. Hoped the iOS update might have. Nope. Also, I have the new iPad for which the new iOS was recommended.
I am unhappy with the recent update (iOS 11). After installing the update, both my phone and my daughter’s phone have issues with the iPhone alarm app not working properly. On sporadic occasions, our alarms will go off 6 or 7 minutes later than the time we set and thus are not reliable–sometimes the alarm app functions perfectly, and sometimes it does not. I informed Apple support of this issue and the person with whom I spoke did not indicate that it was a widespread issue to his knowledge. In any event, we now use back-up alarms for those days where every minute counts.
Also, my battery drains awfully fast and it seems as if I have to charge the phone almost constantly. (And yes, I looked on line for tips on settings to minimize battery usage and have implemented those tips and still have the same problem.)
I wish I had not updated my phone–it was a mistake for sure. I have looked at the subsequent software update information sections and none seem to address the alarm or battery issues, so I have not yet updated to the most current version of iOS11.
I have a two year old iPhone 6s and a brand new iPad 2017 and both of them want me to update. From the comments, it sounds like I should update the iPad but no need on the iPhone if I’m not having problems?
@PurplePlum There are a lot of complaints at that forum about battery issues - that might be the most widespread complaint people have.
@Marilyn Are you happy with your phone? Is it working well? You may want to stay put. Those were the questions I answered for myself. I can’t speak to the ipad - we have a couple mini3s that I won’t update, either.
I’m the tech person for the household (heaven help them) and tend to do a lot of research on this stuff. Again, no expert just someone who has come to respect a lot of the voices at macrumors.
I always worry that if I don’t update every time there’s a software update available, I’m leaving myself more open to viruses and malware that the update would patch.
I have an iPhone 6s and it has latest software, including all updates. So far, it seems fine.
If you have an iPhone 6, your battery is probably, as they say, “fully consumed” and probably needs to be replaced if you are having battery issues or the phone is randomly shutting off or going blank. I went through this with my 6, replaced the battery after having it tested at the Apple store, and it works just fine- even with the updates.
I now have an iPhone X and have had no issues with battery or any of the updates. No problems with my iPad, either.
I have the 6 and updated to 11.2 and haven’t had any problems at all. No problems with my iPad either.
Checking back in with everyone. There have been bout 4 updates since the release of ios11. I keep hoping it will make the phone faster (ha ha dream on, I know) or make it less glitchy. I have not seen much change. The ipad runs pretty smoothly (its the new ipad pro or whatever its called). No issues with the updates. But every time there’s an update there are a gazillion app updates/
