IA registration at Preview

My daughter is going to Preview soon. She’ll be in IA. I originally thought she registered for classes at Preview, like the fall students, and wondered how they did that a semester ahead. Now, I saw something that said they DISCUSS registering for classes. So does that mean she has to come up another time to actually register? Or do they make some sort of schedule that she can just input online? Or do they actually get a schedule?

If it was like last year, IA students have to go to (1) Preview and (2) Launch Into IA. They are described on the website which I suggest you review. At Preview they receive a workbook and discuss what courses are appropriate. At Launch, they get to Register.

Okay, do not panic. Because the University is motivated in making IA work, they reserve a number of seats so that even if you go to the last session of Launch (which is the same day as moving into Beatty - - January 2nd or 3rd). Really.

Scheduling is done with a counselor. They do not allow parents (fear of helicopter) into the scheduling room. When my son got out, we were not happy with the guidance, so we made him go back (during Launch) and fix his schedule to keep him on the tracking (counselor thought it would be too hard for his first semester - - we thought it was too easy and would make the summer too difficult - - he did fine, albeit it was still an adjustment).

While your child meets with the counselor, bring a book, some work from the office, or something to keep you from going nuts while waiting. Once they register, you are finally allowed to move in (in our case, it was raining, the wait for the elevator was so bad we found walking the 6 flights preferable). For this reason, some people go to Launch in December, but its an extra trip.
