IB Chemistry SL or IB Art SL/HL?

<p>Hi, i’m currently a junior in high school. Studying in a American School in Lagos(nigeria).
I will be doing IB Full Diploma. My average GPA till now is 3.8. I am planning to do EE or ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering). </p>

<p>Subjects chosen:

  1. IB English SL
  2. IB Math HL
  3. IB Spanish Ab Inicio SL
  4. IB Economics HL
  5. IB Physics HL
  6. IB Chemistry SL or IB Art SL/HL </p>

<p>My problem is I am terrible at chemistry and i have a terrible teacher, but i could pass. I am great at Art, SL/HL doesn’t matter. My Physics is very strong, expect a 6 or 7 on final. Electrical Engineering barely has any chemistry, so should I take IB Chemistry SL and end up with passing grade even after hard work or choose IB Art SL/HL and do great? Will i get rejected from engineering colleges just because i didn’t take IB Chem?. FYI i have taken Physics twice (bcos i enjoy it), chemistry (once), biology (once) in 9th and 10th grade

<p>Since you posted in the Berkeley forum, and mention engineering, what credit you may get for IB exams is described on page 11 of <a href=“http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/advising%20handbbk%2012-13.pdf[/url]”>http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/advising%20handbbk%2012-13.pdf&lt;/a&gt; .</p>

<p>No credit is given for SL exams. Of the HL exams you mention, you can get the following subject credit for scores of 5, 6, or 7:</p>

<p>IB Math HL: Math 1A and 1B
IB Economics HL: One lower division humanities / social studies course (breadth)
IB Physics HL: nothing
IB Art HL: One lower division humanities / social studies course (breadth)</p>

<p>Others that you may consider:</p>

<p>IB English A1 HL: Reading and Composition A
IB Chemistry HL: Chemistry 1A/1AL
IB Spanish A1 or A2 HL: One lower division humanities or social studies course (breadth)</p>

<p>Note: maximum of two humanities / social studies courses can be fulfilled by IB, AP, or A-level credit.</p>

<p>If you take Chemistry 1A or 4A at Berkeley, note that its prerequisite is just high school chemistry (not necessarily IB, AP, or A-level).</p>

<p>Because you have had all three sciences in high school, it is unlikely that not taking an additional more advanced chemistry course would harm you in admissions (physics is more important for engineering anyway, unless it is chemical engineering).</p>

<p>Note that EECS at Berkeley requires two semesters of physics, plus additional other science courses that the student can choose from a list of acceptable alternatives. Chemistry courses are in the list, but so are other courses like biology, more advanced physics, etc…</p>
