I am a white male and my stats are very similar to all others who post on these forums, 2220 SAT and over 700 subject tests, top 10%, 4.88 weighted GPA, etc etc…

I was wondering if being in the IB program gives me a competitive advantage in the applicant pool. Is being in IB something Duke greatly values, making my chances of acceptance any higher?

Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you

No, it doesn’t give you a competitive advantage. It’s because most school in the US don’t have IB programs. Thus to give an advantage to an IB student over and student who has taken numerous (6+) [because there are 6 IB exams] AP is not fair. What matters is the courses you take. Does it give you an advantage to kids who take 1 or 2 APs? Yes. But Duke’s application pool consists of thousands of students who has taken numerous APs and IBs.

Actually, I remember my school gave us packets of information of IB and one of these had on its back some quotes from dean of admission or etc… from top schools. They stated their thoughts on the IB program and I remember Duke was one of them along with Harvard too. (I don’t remember the other schools and my mom has the packet.)
All of these quotes were postive about the IB program.
Sorry, I really wish I could give you the exact quote.

Nah, its the same as AP, except that the max college credit is 4 and you have more work. If you think IB is going to give you an edge, you’re being naive.
