I have some questions about the admission requirements for Ross business school. I am an IB student. I would like to know the minimum IB points for admission. And I would also like to know if higher-level math is required for admission. If not required, will taking standard-level math be a serious disadvantage? If i take HL math i might get a 5 or less, but i am sure that i will get a 7 in SL.

I got into Michigan, as an IB student, without having to send my predicted IB grades. So, you would be admitted based on the normal factors and the IB scores only matter in gaining college credits. Thus there are not minimum IB scores for admittances.

As for math, the biggest advantage in taking Math HL is getting credit for Calc 1 and 2 in UMich. Other than that, as long as you take the full IB course load; you would get maximum score for academic rigor. Thus, Math HL is not required for admissions into UMich.

Thanks! But what do you mean by normal factors? The only thing I can see on my school report is my IB score for each subject, so how is it possible to get admitted without submiting my IB grades?

US Universities do not accept students conditionally. If you are admitted, you are admitted on existing criteria, such as the courses you re taking, existing grades (if applicable), predicted grades (in the case of IB, A Level and other international systems), SAT/ACT, ECs, essays etc… Your actual IB results will not be known until after the admissions decision is made. And since US universities give unconditional acceptances, the results of your IB exams will only be used for credits. Try your best do ace them because you can get Sophomore standing if you score high.

Your school counselor would be the one who sent in your predicted IB scores. Did she allow you to look at the counselor report?

I don’t understand what you mean by “normal factors” either. Without predicted IB scores or GPA, how can Michigan evaluate your school performance for the last 2 years?

UMich does not ask for our predicted IB grades (1-7). However, it does ask for our grades (A, B, C, D, etc…) in our IB classes and that is what gains admission. The only colleges that require predicted grades are colleges/universities outside the US, and for that, the student has to request them. Thus, the school does not give predicted grades for everyone.
