IBank's list of recruitment schools

WOW these resumes are incredible, just shows you how selective Ibanking is

Sebma and you thought Babson, Bentley or any other second rate schools were gonna make an impression. Gee I don’t even think if I maintained a 3.8+ at Penn State I could get into banking and we have a Top 20 program in the nation.

Shows how tough it really is. I think I’m gonna try my luck at better schools because the same level of success almost guarantees you a spot in IB

I think a 3.8+ at Penn State could land you an i-banking job. Just not with Goldman Sachs.

So UMCP is actually a good place to go for getting a great job like I-Banking or consulting?

yeah if you can get that high gpa. (that applies for any halfway decent business school)

what kinda majors would be best for consulting @UMCP?

finance. trust me to pull a 3.9 like the kids did at Kelly Honors isn’t easy. Even then you saw how many kids actually got jobs at i-banks - maybe 25 at maximum out of the couple hundred that applied.

Finance is mostly math no?

even if u go to harvard, the chance at goldman sachs is pretty tiny (kids at harvard are more ambitious, more will apply)…at UMCP, tinier than tiny. it’s hard stuff…hook up some connections.
lots of interships
work ur ASS off
earn $
get chicks.

I like the way you put that Untilted

What about Columbia? No one has mentioned anything about it. I plan on going to Columbia Engineering school for Engineering Management, how would my chances be if I kept a good GPA at I Banks?

Also should I do Applied Mathematics instead?
Or should I do Bio-medical or Electrical engineering?

I also plan to minor in eocnomics…

Basically how good is Columbia???

I got into Yale EA, but am also applying to Harvard RD. It seems Wharton and Harvard are the two biggest Ibanking schools. Will attending Yale really leave me at a disadvantage?

…bump…

You cant go wrong with columbia, Honestly all this talk of best recruitment schools is a little over the top…you have to be really damn gd thats all there is 2 it, it makes little difference were you go.

Being in NYC i suppose columbias has and advanage in that department, internship etc…

Also i don’t think it matters what you major in so long as you have a stellar GPA

And for the other guy who wants to get into YALE…its ridiculous to hesitate between Yale, Harvard and UPENN…there all great schools.

Maintaint a very high GPA and go to the school you feel most comfortable in, assuming you get into all three

Look at the link poster earlier: http://www.kelley.iu.edu/ibw/resumes/2006/resume_book_2006_pre_summer.pdf

These guys went to kelley IU and got into ibanking

good luk! and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

emperor550, Yale undergrad is just as good as Harvard or Wharton. Yale is yale. If you major econ, you are pretty much set.

Pre-medwannabe, I think you are extremely confused right now. I would recommend you not to attend Columbia engineering, if you really want to do IB. 1st, banks recruit from CC not SEAS. Unless you are willing to settle for IT job, then go for SEAS. 2nd, I can assure you that your GPA will be lower in engineering. Even though Columbia engineering isn’t that good, EE or BME is still a lot tougher than history or economics. In IB world, GPA is very important (at least in the initial selection process for interviews). I would say maximize your GPA when you can. Finally, from your name I assumed that premed is still a possibility. Why don’t you just apply for CC or a top A&S program and study econ. By doing that you can also finish up premed requirement without stressing yourself out too much. Being an engineering major, you probably won’t have too much room to do premed unless you are BME.

Why would they recruit more at UVA when UT-Austin’s business school is ranked higher?? BHP is VERY competitive and is taught in MBA style classes…I doubt I’d want it even if I got in.

Northeastern prestige! IBanks care so much about these old boy school connections.

In regards to Howard, and Ibanks recruiting from there. Have any of you worked in a sales office with black people? They are very professional (because given their racial disadvantages in our society, they have to appear and act more professional than a white person to be considered “professional” enough), and are sharp at sales (given an equal chance and training as most white salesmen are given, and a black person outsells them 5 to 1, i guarantee it). Maybe this is a reason they may be recruited by Ibanks…and since Howard is in DC and predominantly black…Ibanks are attracted.

ecc notes:

What’s wrong with IT in IBs? I’ve heard plenty of CMU engineers join the IT division in IBs - surely they aren’t idiots to “settle” for this?
