We have NEVER bought a fridge with an ice maker. We rarely use ice. Our S bought us 2 covered ice cube trays that we like and keep filled so that ice cubes are ready if anyone wants/needs them. Even without ice makers, fridges & freezers break too often. We are fine with just having cold water from the fridge and don’t need the ice to make it even colder. If we really need a lot of ice (for a party), we just go and buy a bag of it. We like having the extra space that ice maker takes up instead of the ice maker.
It’s a little late for me to do that now!
We replaced the filter…still nothing. We can try the unplug idea.
And we do have ice cube trays.
Well…the new filter didn’t do the trick. But that’s fine. We aren’t spending any money to get this fixed. Ice cube trays are working fine!
Appliance parts pro. Com. Give them your model number. Lots of ice makers can be purchased on Amazon these day’s. Most installations are easier than you would think.
You’re my type of person. I have fixed our 30 year old washer /dryer /ice maker and double oven.
Repair clinic or Appliance parts pro. Com. The second one is more than helpful and you can return parts if not used.
As evidenced by H and I doing fixing it in less than an hour.
Did you try unplugging the fridge or no?
Our old fridge would have a frozen line if we didn’t use the ice maker enough, but the water dispenser would still work
I had the opposite. – the ice maker worked fine, but the water dispenser line froze up right in the door. (where it bypasses the ice chute)
With our old fridge the repair guy said to try a hair dryer to unfreeze the line. It worked several times. I just went appliance shopping with one of my kids and she told the guy she didn’t need an ice maker. He said aside from the basic garage models they all come with an ice maker. She also doesn’t like the bottom freezer which is another option hard to avoid.
I might try…but I’m not pulling the fridge out!
It seems like every maker stopped selling side by side fridges without ice makers. All French doors (yuck) and bottom freezer (double yuck). Have to go very high end like Miele or Subzero or very low end garage model to find one but almost nothing in between.
At this point, I don’t really care about the ice maker. The fridge is 5 years old…hopefully the rest won’t break soon. We have ice cube trays.
Our ice maker is dead too. My husband has successfully fixed several in the past. He once had an online relationship with a guy on ebay known as Mr icemaker. Anyhow, this time, my husband has admitted defeat and we now make ice the old fashion way. Crushed ice can still happen if we make the ice and pour it into the bucket. I, alas, like my ice cubed.
My husband and I did this. It was a very proud moment for him (that he still takes about) when he fixed the ice maker by getting parts and watching a youtube video.
