My boyfriend and I are currently trying to plan a trip to Europe for about two weeks, in mid-August (kinda last minute planning, I know…), and I was wondering if anyone here might have some advice to offer based on their own experience.

In particular, has anyone had experience with an airline called Iceland Express? I found flights through Iceland Express going between Newark and Berlin/London which come out to less than $1600 for two people, round trip, including taxes, which sounds like a great deal. However a quick search online showed less than stellar reviews for the airline…on one hand I figure people who had bad experiences are more likely to submit a review, but on the other hand I would rather pay a few hundred dollars more for a more reputable airline if Iceland Express is really as sketchy as some reviewers claim…

Other than that, if people have other tips to offer or “must-see” places I’m all ears
I’ve never been to Europe, so I’m up for anything. Right now the tentative plan is to visit Paris, London, somewhere in Germany, and maybe a few other places that aren’t too far out of the way (maybe Prague?) We’re still doing research into the logistics. Would EU-Rail be the best bet in terms of travelling between cities, or are there other local train lines that would be worth looking into?

Thanks!

If you get a stop over in Iceland, I would highly recommend it. Such an amazing country

Iceland’s national airline is Icelandair and I have flown with them several times to the US with an Iceland stop over. 30 mins after leaving the plane you can be relaxing in the Blue Lagoon.

Are Iceland Express the company which fly out of London Gatwick?
If so, I have heard they have problems with lots of cancellations. If your flight is not full they cancel it, laving you stuck for at least a day till the next flight. Not ideal. But if it’s a big saving and money is your main issue, you decide.

In my opinion over those distances rail travel will take too long and possibly individual tickets will be cheaper as you won’t use a rail pass enough to make it worht the money. Of course train from London to paris is the quickest way, but that isn’t even included in rail passes (and if you plan on doing this you need to book at eurostar.com as soon as possible. 12 weeks in advance the tickets cost about £50. turn up on the day and you will pay £300).

For only two weeks I would fly to London, 4 nights there, train to Paris, 4 nights there. Fly budget airline or train to your preferred german destination, 4 nights there, fly budget/train to prague, 3 nights there. Try to get open jaw to fly home from prague. or fly budget to London and home from there. This would be a purely city travel plan. An alternative would be to spend 1 week in England and 1 week in France visiting the countryside outside the capitals.

Start looking as soon as possible for budget flights (try easy jet, ryan air, flybe etc) and remember you will be charged extortionate amounts to check luggage/for excess baggage.
