I’m interested in how quickly things can get back to normal. Were you affected, and how fast did you get where you needed to be?</p>
<p>My interest - My H is in London and I’m bored… regretting my decision to stay here and tend to my job. He’s seeing Billy Elliot and touring around until tickets home become available. I’m dealing with the tile contactor.</p>

<p>Oh… I saw that in London. It is phenomenal! Just opened in Chicago, and I’m sure I will see it again (and again). Sorry you were left behind.</p>
<p>We have the opposite challenge I guess - H has colleagues from the UK that are stranded here - there are only so many attractions around here so I am afraid they will get pretty bored. Maybe they can become paint contractors for me : )</p>

<p>Icelandic eruption derailed my son’s school trip to Paris. They were scheduled go BDL to ORD and then to France yesterday (Thursday). The second flight was cancelled, thankfully before they left for Chicago. At this point they are investigating the possibility of leaving on Sunday morning (driving from CT to Newark and flying from there)…but remains to be seen if that will pan out. Depends on if they can re-arrange hotels, TGV tickets, etc. It means they have more than likely lost the first three days of the stay - which was the “sightseeing in Paris” part. 
The kids (high schoolers - about 25 of them) are SO DISAPPOINTED. :(</p>

<p>How disappointing! I hope the lodging costs are refundable…they surely need those rooms for all the folks stuck on that side of the pond!</p>

<p>Icelandic eruption has derailed my boss’s daughter’s trip to the UK…plane tix refundable, but rail tix they bought are not. It’s amazing what things can intervene in travel plans and it’s not always the best thing to buy those non-refundable tix.</p>
<p>On the plus side, my co-workers, who are all such hardworking folks, went to France for a project kick off (and I know, everyone thinks…oh those poor slugs…but, travelling does get old, it’s a tough project, the French are a difficult business partner at my company, and they were not looking forward to the trip) Well, now they are “stuck” BUT…they are all having fun now…travelling this weekend anywhere they want in France by rail. I am happy for them. </p>
<p>So, there is a PLUS side for some!</p>

<p>Fingers crossed that the volcano won’t derail S coming home from his semester abroad. He’s not due to fly until May 4th, but he’s supposed to change planes @ Heathrow. By then who knows what the volcano will be doing and which way the wind will be blowing? I read that the last time this volcano erupted (300 years ago) it lasted TWO YEARS.</p>
<p>S is taking a weekend trip to Grenada (from Barcelona), the flight was still on. But he has many friends in his program in Barcelona who were planning to head north this weekend, most of their flights were cancelled. S was in London last weekend, good thing he came home last Sunday! If the eruption were a few days earlier, he could still be stuck there.</p>
<p>I have a friend who is stuck in Scotland, she was there on business.</p>
<p>From what the school chaperones say, we will be refunded about 75% of the cost. Not sure exactly which piece is or is not refundable…we are still in shock…so disappointing. The kids were IN the airport, had boarding passes in hand before they learned of the flight cancellation. (and, S’s b-day is tomorrow, was supposed to be spending it in Paris).</p>

<p>My hubby is currently in Germany. He isn’t due to fly home until a week from now, but is keeping an eye on things. There is also a threat of Lufthansa pilots striking and blocking air traffic.</p>
<p>I’m supposed to drop my senior-aged parents off at LAX on Sunday to fly to Schipol. Now not looking so good.</p>

<p>Volcanic Eruption derailed my families trip to Italy to visit my D who is studying abroad in Florence. As of noon today our flight to Rome via Zurich was still on but by 1:00 all airways around Switzerland were shut down. It has been 22 years since we went to Europe. We have been planning the trip for over a year right down to every detail. Rome, Florence and then Venice. Probably the last chance to travel as a family before the girls have jobs and responsibilities. </p>
<p>Now we have to decide whether to try to do an “abbreviated” version by flying out on Tuesday night or ditching the whole thing. I have to be back by next tuesday so time is limited. Very disappointing. </p>
<p>It reminds me of that old line: “I made and plans and God laughed”. Something like that.</p>

<p>The eruption derailed my husband’s business trip to London this weekend. He was looking forward to being a tourist for a few days, but that remains to be seen if the meeting is still on.</p>
<p>DH was supposed to leave for Paris this afternoon. Has alternative reservations for Sunday. Business meeting begins Tuesday. He had hoped to do some sightseeing this weekend. </p>
<p>Saving grace is that he wanted me to go with him (April in Paris and all that…), but I begged off because of S2’s impending college decisions, studying for AP/IBs, drama production going live this weekend, etc. At least we didn’t lose $$ on that!</p>
