i got deferred…

I checked the online status website today at school and I got deferred.

I’m kind of sad because I’m not really sure why I got deferred, my stats are above average, my essay was great, the interview I had for Rice was the best out of all of the other ones I’ve done, I’ve talked to admissions officers personally, and my recs were great. I guess Southern Californians didn’t fare well in the ID round, or maybe my application just didn’t stand out as a match for Rice.

Anyways, congrats to all those accepted and good luck in the RD round to all those who got deferred!

Aww, I’m really sorry to hear that, icymoon…but have hope! I’m confident that you’ll get an acceptance next round…(I guess this means more bribing the mailman, lol?)

I’m in the same situation as you icymoon. I’m sort of confused and now, I’m afraid I’m not going to get in anywhere that I want to go. I’ll probably end up going to a UC and they’re not bad schools, just not for me.

I hear ya’, icymoon. It’s really strange being deferred, especially when you feel you’ve done everything right. Just remember that all schools look for different things in a student, and, more often than not, they’ll end up selecting a student for diversity and denying the strongest student in the applicant pool. Just be happy that your foot is in the door - my consoler spoke with the Rice admissions office about my deferral, and they said that anybody that was deferred didn’t have a deficit in their records, and that they just wanted to compare us to the entire applicant pool. We still have a chance, all we have to do is wait another two months :-)
