Colleges I’m applying to:
George Mason University
James Madison University
Catholic University
Ithaca College
University of Hartford
University of Cincinnati
Montclair State University
Intended Major: Musical Theater but I am asking about my ACADEMIC chances
Average UNWEIGHTED gpa: 3.78, would be almost 4.1 weighted
SAT score: 1200 (Terrible test taker, even more terrible at math.)
9th: 3 honors classes
10th: 3 honors classes
11th: 1 honors class, 2 IB classes
12th: 1 honors class, 5 IB classes
Took less challenging courses and decided against IB diploma so I would have more elective space to take courses related to theater and music.

Volunteers at animal shelter 2 hour shifts twice a month
Artistic director of a musical theater camp for kids 7-14 (directing and choreographing job)
I am a very good communicator and writer and I know my essay will wow them. My worry is about my average SAT score even though my schools aren’t that academically rigorous.
I’m not all too familiar with those schools to be honest but the only one I really am familiar with is Hartford and I know you’ll be good with them! Even with your SAT, you have a rigorous course load and you did a bunch of stuff for extracurriculars. You’ll be good!
Good gpa, and ecs show your great interest and commitment in theatre. Im not very familiar with those schools to know how much they care about sat scores but why dont you retake them just to be more sure? With these ecs, gpa and great letters you do have a chance but a good gpa will help you too! Chance me back please
Definitely work on your SAT. If you can afford a tutor, find a good one and go (I went to one and increased about 100 points on mine). Also, do you have any leadership positions within your ECs? That tends to help out. Your GPA is solid and your course load seems very rigorous, which are both pluses.
Since you’re going for MT, a lot of schools that you have to audition into do a 50/50 approach with admissions (50% common app, 50% audition), so if you wow them with your audition that’ll help your chances as well.
(And I know you’re not looking for school recs – but maybe check out Wagner and Baldwin Wallace. Both schools with great MT programs, but not as competitive as others.)
