Ideas for Birthday Care Package

Son is having his birthday away at college in October. Any ideas for things to include? We live in a warm climate so melting chocolate is a concern, but other than that, anything goes.

For one of my kids I made cupcakes, but did not frost them. Put in a couple different cans of frosting and sprinkles with them and mailed those.

Most colleges have some companies that will deliver baked goods on campus, too. We have also done that – I think that is what I will be doing for my freshman D’s birthday in the spring.

Good idea with packing the cupcakes unfrosted!

For freshman year…I made brownies which transport via mail very nicely. Included birthday candles, party hats, a Mylar streamer that said happy birthday, and a gift certificate to the pizza place they frequented the most.

When I shipped cross country, I froze the bake goods nice and solid…and took the out of the freezer, put them in the box and sent them. They were fresh and defrosted by the time they got across the country.

Thank you, will be freezin’!

We had a cake delivered. College towns often have this. I then packed some birthday plates, napkins, etc and sent them to his roommate to surprise him.

I’ve ordered a cake and was lucky enough to have the RA pick it up (that was the only year she lived in the dorm), but another idea is to look on QVC- they have cheesecakes and some other yummy delights which are shipped perfectly packed and arrive when you want them to.
