Ideas for colleges to apply to?

Looking to go to a fairly large school with a d1 football and basketball team.
I want to go into computer science or engineering, so I’d like schools with good reputations in this field
GPA: 3.95
ACT: 35
Ecs are a bit weak.
Currently applying to Washington and Michigan but probably won’t get in so I want a backup.

My first thought is that I think you will get into U of Washington. It’s not a guarantee but it’s certainly possible. U of Michigan is also possible, but more of a reach. As for schools that rank high in CS/E and have D1 sports, the options are plentiful. Virginia Tech, U of Florida, Texas A&M, Ohio State, U of Wisconsin, etc, all rank in the top 50 in the nation for engineering.

Keep in mind that if you are applying as a freshman for fall 2018 the clock is ticking. I have recently sent in applications to many schools around the country and I know that deadlines are approaching. U of MN/U of WI for example have priority deadlines of November 1st. It is not necessary to submit it by then, but you increase your chances and hear back sooner if you do.

Let me know if you want to hear more about certain campuses. I have had the opportunity to visit: U of MN, U of Wyoming, UT-Austin, Texas A&M, Baylor, and TCU.

Best of luck.

What state are you from? What can you afford? Is your GPA weighted or unweighted?

If your GPA is unweighted you would be almost guaranteed to get in at McGill, and Waterloo would also be very likely and is very strong at CS and engineering. Neither would care about your ECs (when my oldest applied to McGill they didn’t even ask). Football and basketball would be lacking at both.

I’m from Nebraska and my GPA is unweighted. I’d also like to know how much effort I need to put into essays for UCLA

UCLA - 4 essays - approx 500-550 words each. Essays chosen from list of 8 questions. They really aren’t that difficult to write but they are very important. 11/30 due date so need to get busy if on your list. What’s your UC GPA?? Assume you have taken some AP’s and you need to meet their A-G course requirements including visual arts.

FYI - you can either start your app or just google the list of essay questions to get started on those ASAP.

iowa state
utah
nc state
va tech
ohio state

Yes I realize what UCLA essays entail lol, I was asking how good they need to be considering my academics are good(imo). I don’t have any UC GPA I don’t live in california.

And idk what you mean by they aren’t difficult to write these prompts seem hard as hell for me.

Use this link to calculate your UC GPA - provided you took AP’s in 10-11 grades and did well I’m sure your UC GPA will be good. Just keep in mind that you also need to meet the visual arts requirement - if you didn’t just move on from the UC’s (e.g., Art History). https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Given your test score, and assuming your UC GPA is as impressive as your UW GPA, you may get away with simply decent essays. BTW - they require ACT w Essay so hope your score is with essay. Good luck.

UC is 4.35/4.06 if i use my own school’s definition of honors courses but I seem to remember UC didn’t consider my classes actual honors classes unless they were AP so it would be 3.98 for both if I only count my AP classes. How bad is that?

Iowa State, U of Minnesota, and Purdue all fit your requirements. Good luck!
