Ideas for hotel for Xmas week with 20 something year old children within 2 hours of NYC

I am wondering if there are any all inclusive type resorts (like there used to be in the Catskills) that would fulfill our needs - a nice indoor pool. maybe a spa, good food, and shows at night?

This is in the right area and I know people who go here and love it.

Golf Resort & Hotel Getaway near NYC | Crystal Springs Resort in NJ;

Take a look at Travel Zoo for the NY area. You can register to receive their weekly (periodic?) newsletter. Might find a deal there.

zoosermom, I was just coming to post that! I don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier. I, too, know people who love it there. Except for the desire for shows, it sounds like the perfect spot for the OP. :)

You’re righ alwaysamom, no shows, but there are activities, which might possibly appeal to the younger crowd, and I have heard that the food is truly amazing and one could make an event out of trying the different restaurants.

The crystal golf resort looks interesting, except there is nothing doing there at night. Any other resort type places that anyone can come up with that may have a bit more going on at night?

I’m from Poughkeepsie, and I can’t think of anyplace with an indoor oasis. The Hyde Park sites (Vanderbilt Estate, Roosevelt Estate, Culinary institute) would be nicer when NOT winter.

A terrific outdoor attraction is the walkway. An old train bridge has been turned into a pedestrian bridge (open to bikes to on some days). It’s has an incredible view of the Hudson River - https://www.walkway.org/

I would go back and check Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods. If they don’t have anything else going on at night, I believe both have movies. There are spas, and good restaurants. And indoor pool.

quest, can you give a priority list? From what I’m gathering:
1-within two hours of NYC
2-reasonably priced (can you give a range?)
3-indoor pool
4-things to do during day
5-shows at night
6- spa

Is this your vision of priorities? If not, what would you change?

It appears posters have given many options, but you are still searching. Which of the above are you willing to concede a bit on? The more info given, the easier to suggest suitable options…

And honestly…if you pick the right place in Atlantic City, you never need to leave the hotel to find all that you are looking for. I would suggest one of the places that is NOT on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. There is a whole other section with resort/casinos that is not on the boardwalk. Look for one of those!

Cape May NJ is lovely during Christmas. It’s a Victorian town and is decorated w house tours during that time. There are 1-2 hotels with indoor pools. They aren’t fancy hotels, but the pools are nice. They probably don’t have an attached spa, but there are several in town and everything is walking distance. One hotel I can recommend is The Grand. My SIL stays there every spring break w her kids and she has very high standards. They are a few repertory theater groups in town, but you will need to check the calendar. It’s a very relaxing place with some of the best restaurants in NJ. We rented a house there for 10+ years. It’s where my kids summer vacation memories were made, not our current beach house which we’ve only owned 5 years.

I would say our priorities/wish list comes down to:

 1. Beautiful indoor pool that gives the illusion of “really being away in the Carribean” to spend the days
 2. Within 2ish hours of NYC
 3. Somewhat reasonably priced
 4. Good places to eat
 5. Nightime activites are a plus

I think those two casino hotels in CT are worth looking into.

Another vote for Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Plus both are in close range to skiing (okay, Connecticut skiing but still…), Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Sturbridge Village (nice Christmas stuff, but a little longer drive), museums and shows in Hartford and New Haven. They have various entertainments although I don’t happen to know what’s on specifically at that time. There are multiple hotels with pools and tons of restaurants. Even if you don’t gamble, there’s still lots to do there.

And if you really don’t like the spa in the hotel…you can go to Norwich Inn and Spa. It’s also not all that far from Newport. The mansions there are decorated for the holidays and someone might enjoy that too.

How about this one? Questbest: It’s probably best to do your own research on-line. Everyone here has an idea of what you want, but no one will know exactly. This one is in the Poconos and it seems to have a large indoor water park and swimming pool, with Palm trees & everything, plus evening entertainment. I have a feeling that they’ll be others in the Poconos like this one. Best to do your own research though…imho.
