My DIL loved a succulent terrarium I gave them.
I also gave each couple some decorative pillows that they liked a lot.
A waterproof picnic blanket for each couple.
Bought a day at the local microbrewery for DS and DH. They spent the whole day working with the owner and brewer. It was really fun.
Our BFFs bought a lakeside property in Michigan. We gave them this:

They were ecstatic!!
As a Michigander born and raised and a Great Lakes property owner I ADORE Michigan maps and have a collection on our walls at our Lake Huron property - very cool!
My D is very excited about her air fryer! She did say to pay attention to the size as there are some that are very small. My D lives with her bf and she likes to cook for the week so a larger size was important to her.
D loved her bubble tea kit
Baby kid loves her T3 hair dryer.
I’m happy that we finally own Carcassone.
I’m into bird/wildlife photography. Knowing that I love birds, my wife gave me for my birthday present her painting of birds from one of my photos. I was thrilled and surprised since she kept the painting a secret. For my turn, I took a photo of this painting, then made it into a coffee mug for her Christmas present. It turned out really well. I kept that a secret, so she was thrilled and surprised, in turn.
I gave D an UrbanDecay palate of eye shadows plus nice warm fleece from Columbia. Both were on sale for nice prices.
Gave S new 2019 game of the year, Wingspan. He seemed surprised & pleased.
H and I got new Ogio backpacks from Costco we really like.
DH spent many HOURS (sometimes with help from DD) enjoying a ridiculously hard 1000 piece puzzle of the Broncos stadium. Usually I get the family 3D puzzles, but somewhere in past year I saw this one and stashed it in the present closet. I wrapped it with tag to DH and DD (a HUGE Broncos fan) - “Keep believing… Santa”
At our big family event we play dirty Santa aka Yankee Swap and have a $30 goal. This year’s popular item was Pyrex glass storage containers. It’s funny because it was clear that the original person opening it up was less than pleased, but a bunch of folks thought that would be useful for them.
A couple hit gifts: the Friends Central Perk Lego kit was a hit with my daughters (20 and 27 year olds still love Lego). The game Azul and Deep Sea Diver were also a hit with the family. My younger D did a painting for the older D and SIL’s new house. And a surprise hit was waterproof fanny packs for D and SIL to wear while they kayak or walk on the beach at their new home. I also got several ideas from the stocking stuffer thread on here, so helpful!!
I mentioned this on another thread but here goes…
D was randomly googling last summer and found a photo of my late FIL taken when he was captain of his Div I football team long ago. It is a terrific photo and was taken by a fairly prominent photographer. I bought a matted and framed copy of the photo for H’s Christmas gift and he loved it!
I realize this was a unique and specific situation, but many people might want a framed, cherished family photo.
I decided not to give “stuff” this holiday. My H is a huge jazz fan, so I bought him tickets to a local jazz venue to see a musician he likes. Bought my younger D and her boyfriend (both basketball fans) tickets to see their favorite NBA team. For older D and her husband, I got them a GC for the best restaurant in their town (they just moved so I had to rely on reviews online). Everyone seemed pleased with his/her gifts.
Blue tooth outdoor speaker.
Art museum membership. D loves the art museum but rarely goes because it’s too expensive for her budget. With her membership, she can take friends and go as often as she likes. She was absolutely thrilled with the gift.
She also loved the fanny pack/belt bag I got her. It’s a bit more dressy than the average canvas pack and can convert to a clutch for evenings out.
My D and DIL both loved their Away carry-ons. Both travel a lot, and were happy for an upgrade from their high school era budget brand luggage.
AirBnB gift card.
Gift card to D1’s new local skin care boutique.
Costco membership for D2
See, gift cards CAN really be appreciated and loved!
DH got 8 Star Wars drones, each got one including himself, me, 2 kids, and the 4 nieces and nephews that came to visit us over the break. It was a huge hit and so much fun to play. Imaging 8 drones flying at the same time and shooting (with laser beams) at each other. Even the neighbors came out and watched.
