One of the scariest articles I have ever read…but EVERYONE should read. Makes me want to close down every online account I have. Yet that wouldn’t protect me :/

The author of the article gives the example of hacking your email account as the starting point. So just for kicks, I went to my email account and clicked on “forgot password”. It then asked me what year and make my first car was. There’s no way that information is on the net.

Year and make of your first car? For many people that type of information (maybe not that exact fact, but similar personal information) finds its way onto the internet via facebook or blogs.

My sister was almost scammed by a method described in the article. Scammers got SS# for her and her husband and activated their call forwarding, so scammers received security phone calls, drew down their HELOC and almost wired funds out of the country. Credit Union required in person validation and just in time my sister noticed online that there was a loan balance in the account.
