I mailed the IDOC package (20 pages) today. Deadline for receipt is March 1. Got home and realized I’d made a mistake!

My son earned about $2,000 in 2012. He received a 1099-Misc. from the non-profit that paid him. No taxes were withheld. As such, he owes about $250 as figured on Schedule SE (Self Employment). Dumb mistake on my part, but I didn’t realize he was “self-employed.” Basically, if your child earns more than $400, taxes must be paid! Beware.

Anyway, I actually called the post office to see if I could retrieve the IDOC from the mail. No such luck. I’d smile at my own naivete if I weren’t so frustrated!

What should I do? In addition to IDOC, should I update the Fafsa to reflect the $250 in taxes paid? Everything else is OK.
