Hi I’m currently a junior with a 3.82/4.44 gpa at a public highschool in which I’m in the top 3%.
Given that my test scores are high (4/5 on AP and a 2200 SAT), will I have a better chance at getting admitted into the school if I end up swimming for that school?
Some of my times include a 21 50 free, 52 100 fly, and a 1:56:8 200 free
1:46.8**** - 200 free
And the schools I’m thinking of are UChicago and JHU.
@TheNICKNAME – There are lots of threads on this in the Athletic Recruits section. If you get recruited by a coach from a D3 school it’s critical for him to be specific with you as to how much he’s supporting you in the admissions process. The general answer to your question is ‘yes’ – if you’re recruited and strongly supported by a coach it definitely increases your chance of getting into that school.
Again, you need to go onto collegeswimming.com and compare your times with this year’s times for these events at the schools in question. It’s not clear to me that you’re fast enough (right now) to be recruited by those two schools.
Your times are very competitive for most DIIIs. Both schools you identify are pretty fast, but I’d encourage you to give it a shot. Your swimming could easily put you over the top.
But remember, Brown does not give athletic scholarships. Your family income is $160,000 to $180,000 a year…so attending Brown will not be free.
