If admitted SCEA...how many times did you take SAT1?

Just curious…if you were admitted SCEA…how many times did you take the SAT I? Only include SAT I taken Jr or Sr year.? Don’t count SAT taken 9th grade or earlier.

once, november of jr year.

twice but take it as few times as possible… I only retook because I couldn’t think on the one day

Since I think for the purposes of this rejections/deferrals should also be looked at, I took it once in May of my junior year (2350) and got rejected.

twice. first time i got a 1950, with 103 fever all weekend. second time i got a 2000.
did you apply scea?

I took it once (2400).

twice

First time in Soph year to see where I stood (2200)

and second time because my guidance counselor wouldn’t stop insisting fall of senior year (2370)

I don’t think I got significantly more intelligent between the two tests, so I wouldn’t see the two scores any differently

I’m not a student…and didn’t apply SCEA…but know others who have in the past.

Even for schools that say they super-score, multiple sittings could have a negative impact on an applicant. As far as their scores go, it will be positive (if scores go up), but as far as the “whole” candidate, it could be negative.

Generally, I think that Stanford does not look favorably towards “packaged” and “prepped” candidates. Sometimes, it’s difficult to tell if a kid has been packaged and prepped…but…multiple sittings for the SAT…particularly more than 2…could be an indication.

I have no proof that Stanford “prefers” applicants with only 1 or 2 sittings…so I was just wondering what the experience had been of students on this board. (Although…like Baelor…if you took it once and got a 2400…there would certainly be no reason to sit for it again!!!)

I took two SAT II tests once (800 on each), and got 750 on a third (after my SAT I). I retook the third subject test, and it worked out in the end.

Got accepted and only took the SAT once (during sophomore year).

I took the SAT twice. I bombed it in May because I got back from a track meet the night before at midnight. I retook it the next month and did much better.

Goes to show that they’ll take your best score.

Accepted:

M/R/W
1st time, Soph: 800, 630, 710
2nd time late Junior: 770, 640, 720
SAT II, late Junior: 800 chem 800 math 720 ushistory
3rd time early Senior: 800, 670, 800

Obviously my third time was all that was needed, and superscoring was not required (oddly enough I didn’t do anything different on this one).

So are three sittings bad? Probably, but looks like it didn’t put me at any signficant disadvantage. I would think more than three could be potentially bad.

However, my theory is, based on what little I have read about admissions, is that a computer or designated person compiles “cheat sheets” on all applicants with an already super scored SAT score. The adcoms then only see this final superscore, and can probably refer to all scores if needed. This would A) prevent bias B)make it easier for adcoms and prevent confusion/miscalculuatng/misadding.

^ then what is the deal with some schools not honoring SAT’s new score choice program? I’d like to think that what you described is true…but the pessimistic side of me does not think it is such

Once. (2300). 800 M, 760 CR, 740 WR. Jr year.
