If I am emailing my professor my thesis, how can I get it so Word does not highlight?

I am emailing my professor my final paper as a Word attachment, but I am somewhat worried because many words on every page are covered in red underlining. This is because the paper uses a ton of German words that Word does not recognize. Although I can tell the spellchecker to ignore these things, I am scared that when she opens the paper she is going to find a document filled with red underlining. Even though she will recognize that these are not actual errors, I think the unclean presentation of the whole thing could adversely affect my grade in a subconscious way.

Is there a way to make the Word document read only or something so that half the paper won’t have these stupid red underlines when she opens it?

Thanks.

You can select each of the German words and change their language to German. That way the spellchecker will check those words as German, and the rest of your words as English. However, this is rather tedious, especially if your paper is long. Even if you add them to the spell check dictionary, the professor’s computer won’t recognize them, and it will still underline the non-English words.

You can protect the document so it is read-only, but I’m not sure that takes away the red underlines. Finally, you can save as a PDF file. I’d tell you how to do these things, but I only know how to do them for Word 2007. It could be different on the older versions. Just consult your help files, and it will tell you how to do all of this.

I honestly wouldn’t be that worried about it.

Save your word document as a pdf and send the pdf version. To do this, go to the print screen; one of the options will be to saves as pdf.

In one of the options menus, under spelling and grammar, check the box that says Hide spelling errors as you type. There’s a similar box for grammar errors.

ken285’s solutions will only work on YOUR computer, not your professor’s.

However, I will third the suggestion to convert your file to .pdf. I do think it’s unnecessary though to do this at all.
pdfonline.com has a free online service to convert your .doc files to .pdf.

Hope I helped!
