<p>My family knew we wouldn’t be receiving need based aid, but they want me to try applying for outside scholarships, would having not have applied for need based aid make collecting such difficult? I am looking at Yale’s Financial Aid policy, and it says that “Merit scholarships may replace the Student Effort component of an award, as allowed by the federal family contribution,” however, what would happen if I wasn’t awarded anything because I didn’t apply?</p>
<p>If you get accepted at Yale and receive an outside scholarship…but have no financial aid from the school, your outside scholarship will reduce the amount you are contributing.</p>
<p>If you HAD need based aid from Yale, your need based aid would be reduced by Yale…if you got an outside scholarship.</p>
