Here’s my schedule this year (sophomore chemE at purdue)

Calculus III - 4
Material & Energy Balances - 3
Electricity & Magnetism - Withdrew - 3
Orgo I - Will withdraw - 3
Orgo I Lab - 1
Microeconomics - 3

Total - 17 credits
e&m - 14 credits
orgo 1 - 11 credits

my school says 12 credits is the minimum for full time.
Since I’m dropping it so late, does that mean I will become a part time student, and my bank will have a problem with that?

please check your financial aid / student loan status before you drop because becoming less than full time could trigger all kinds of bad results.

check with your school. At my school if you drop / withdraw to below 12 credits, you aren’t considered full time anymore. The only thing I really know that means is that you can’t live in campus housing.

Why do you want to drop now? Are you failing, or just not getting your desired grade? Can you withdraw/ passing at this point or would it be a withdraw/failing onyour transcript?

Have you spoken with your academic advisor? Have you gone to your professsor/ta/tutoring office for help? Dropping this late in the semester is rather drastic given all the work you have already put in. You’ve also paid for credit hours you won’t be receiving.

my school has the sciences and labs as separate classes, as in you have to register separately… however you still have to do be in them both. You cannot take a lab without the accompanying class. Isn’t the whole point of a lab to apply what you do in class?

Most schools allow you to drop the class and keep the lab as long as its at least midway through the semester. The idea is you’ve learned enough in class to understand the rest of the lab, and half the time the lab exercises don’t follow the class exactly anyway.

I dropped orgo but kept orgo lab a few years ago. Retook it in the summer and got an A

I withdrew from one course… I got an 80 on the first exam in physics, but then I just got behind on all the homeworks and quizzes, and I would’ve had to do really well to get a C or B at that point, so I withdrew. I’m retaking it next semester.
It’s not that I can’t do chemE, I just really didn’t expect this much work, and that you could get ****ed this badly if you stopped working on one of your classes for a week. Wasn’t at all like last year.

Calculus is a joke for me… I’m not trying to sound smart or anything, but calc 3 isn’t nearly as bad as orgo where I go to college.

I’ve gotten really behind on the reading. I really don’t think I can relearn it at this point, I mean I tried since the last week but rememorizing all those mechanisms on top of stuff for the next exam was too much. It would probably be withdraw passing, but I’m probably just going to fail it and retake it now.

Honestly, one withdrawal and one F shouldn’t make a big difference on my transcript, I know I can do better than how I’m doing now. I just never realized that missing a week of one course to study for another course’s exam would screw me over so badly, so it happened like a chain reaction… all my classes got screwed lol.

Could you take a grade of “I” (for incomplete) and make up the work over break? That is what my son’s roommate did when he came down with mono not too long before finals, and fell behind on his work.
