I’m currently on the way to passing both IB English HL1 and History HL1 with a D in the first semester. There’s no way to validate deficient grades for English and History in the a-g requirements, would this mean I’d have to look into community college? If it helps, I plan on auditioning into music education programs.
@Gumbymom probably can explain.
But my opinion…you need to figure out WHY these are D grades and get that somehow addressed.
English is a hard requirement for the Cal states and UC’s, so you would need to repeat the 1st semester if you receive anything lower than a C- or you are not eligible to apply to either the CSU’s and UC’s.
-
If you do not repeat the courses by the summer prior to 12th grade, then the D’s will be calculated into your UC/CSU GPA’s which will have a negative impact.
-
Repeating the semester will replace the deficient grades with the new grades. For the CSU’s, you would only list the repeat grade on the CSU application when applying.
For the UC’s, you have to report the original and repeat grade on the UC application but the UC’s will use the new repeat grade in the GPA calculation and during the application review.
- As I stated above, you will need 4 years (8 semesters) of English with passing grades to apply to all the schools. You will self-report your grades and courses for the applications and also in-progress/planned Senior grades.
You need to work with your HS counselor to figure out how to repeat the courses so you will be eligible to apply Senior year.
Even if course validation was available, the deficient grades would still impact your chances/GPA if not repeated.
