If I follow this road, is it possible to get into MIT

<p>Hello, first of all I would like to think everyone in the community, Im a freshman, and being able to speak with people that know what they are talking about and who have a first hand experience is a great opportunity.</p>

<p>I am a very organized person, so I have preety much planned all the courses that I will take in high school.</p>

<p>Here are the courses Im taking and in about a month will finish.</p>

<p>Algebra II Honors
Biology Honors
English I Honors
Spanish III
Geography
Speech
Team Sports
Basketball
Bussines Systems and Technology</p>

<li>A lot of these stupid electives were school requirements</li>

<p>Perfomace level Freshamn Year: Unfortunetly for me, my life changed in many way during freshman year, in the first 2 months of freshman year, I went through 4 different houses. My parents split up, I went to live with my father and my brother. While living with my dad I slept with my dad and bro in a 2 room office filled with equipment and computers, very uncomfortable and other weeks in my grandmas house. One day my father kicked me out and I went to live with my mother and had to leave my brother and my dog behind. While living with my mom I slept few weeks in one of my aunts house, and the rest in another aunt’s house. Due to all the moving, I had to switch school twice. When i finally settled, it was nearing the end of the first semester and my schedule set up was different in the other school, so some of the courses I was supposed to be halfway done with, I barely knew anything about. To sum it up, my first semester from freshman year was the worst time in my life, both academicly and personally. While I managed to get some A’s and B’s and 1 C, I got one F in Speech which is half year required elective, I had to take the final and the tests without knowing anything, I got the first F in my entire life. Beggining of the second semester (Third Quarter) was much better. All B’s and A’s. Now In my last quarter, I have all A’s in all my classes and have gotten continous 100%'s on my Algebra II Honors tests and Biology Honor’s tests.</p>

<p>Conclusion of freshman year: Horrible</p>

<p>I am striving for 5’s on all the AP exams, I know I can do it, since I do not go out at all except maybe on weekends to visit my brother. I am also capable fo studing non stop days after days after days.</p>

<p>*During the summer of my sophomore year, I will self teach myself Calculus, so that I may take Calculus AB next year and Calculus AC next year. My school schedule doest allow me to take 2 math classes, I would have to take them during the same time.</p>

<p>Future Junior Schedule - I will use Dual Enrollment to take AP Computer Science AB</p>

AP Enviromental Science
AP Calculus AB
AP American History
AP Computer Science AB
Physics I Honors
English III Honors</p>

<p>Supposing I get fives on the Ap exams ( Mainly those dealing with science, math, and computers ) is it possible to get into MIT?</p>

<p>You need to have fun somewhere in this whole process. You need more than just grades and scores for MIT - if you read the admissions results threads on the MIT forum, you will see that hard stats can keep you out, but not get you in. </p>

<p>Your schedule is certainly rigorous enough - and if your GC includes your freshman family difficulties in his/her rec, MIT will take that into consideration. Don’t fret over what you can’t change. </p>

<p>Certainly, keep MIT as your goal - and work hard - but have fun, too. It can be a sciency kind of fun - intel, science olympiad, robotics, whatever. Clubs and programs such as these provide the ability to work with others, see a problem evolve from beginning to end - and HAVE FUN. </p>

<p>Best of luck to you and I hope your family situation calms down. You are on a good path - my crystal ball can’t see if it leads across the Charles River or not - but it should be to a fabulous place.</p>

<p>Um…no? Everyone wants 5’s on AP’s. Stop predicting and come back your junior or senior year. </p>

<p>I predicted I was going to do this and that to get into Harvard.</p>

<p>Yea, I can pretty much tell you that MIT doesn’t want a machine, I mean I got in with only a 2000, but an assortment of EC’s which I was heavily involved in as well as a considerably good transcript. So, yea, just chill, and I’m not trying to be mean when I say this, but try to get out some.</p>

<p>Thank you so much for your information, and dont worry, i do active sports, I am a very good tenis player. I practice dailiy a minimum of 2 hours, and I hope that a very nice exibition tape of my tenis skillz could help me win over MIT</p>

<p>TOny, im not sure if this question is too personal, but can u give me a list of the courses you took, what you got on them or something, sat/act scores. I just wanna know what it takes to make it in MIT, that way I dont have to push myself to hard.</p>

<li>( To hideANDseek) I am not prediciting, I believe in myself enough to KNOW I WILL, it may seem foolish, many people tell me its stupid to take that many classes, I have yet to see one person say " I know you can do it" or “I believe in you” not my parents, not my friends, nor my counselors. I KNOW I WILL meet the goals I have set, regardless of what those close to me and even those whose opinions I highly respect say.</li>

<p>Have some fun bro, go out on Friday nights…do something unique instead of generic. Oh and don’t put down MIT to send your score report to next year. Wait till senior year. The grade you get on the AP doesnt really matter unless your hs puts it on your transcript…other than that collys won’t see them until your already accepted. Nothing here really makes you stand out. Mad people study and take hella Ap’s but people get in b/c they’re devoted to something different. Find something you like that not many other people do…and get involved</p>

<p>To get into MIT:

  1. you need to do something unique
  2. you need to have PASSION, PASSION, PASSION!!!</p>

<p>There is NO number of 5s on AP tests that will guarantee you MIT…plus if it looks like you just take lots of APs for MIT, those adcoms will have a hard time finding out what subjects you really like (i.e. your PASSION), and just think of you as a person who wants to impress them…</p>
