If I lie on my application, will I get into serious trouble?

So my situation is odd but I want to start Graduate school but their program deadline is literally 3 days before I ‘technically’ graduate with my Bachelors degree. The two programs literally start and end on the same day, but the cut off for the program is what’s holding me back. My teacher stated she wouldn’t post my final grade early even though I’m completely done.

My dilemma is whether I tell the program that I AM done and have met my degree requirements even though technically I won’t for an additional 3 days.

I don’t want to get kicked out nor them find out I lied about the 3 days. Then again, it’s 3 days. Not 30.

Help? Lol.

The grad program wants you right? It’s in their best interests to admit you, right? Then why don’ t you just tell them your dilemma. Are you that marginally wanted that they are looking for a simple excuse to kick you out?

Well they know the situation. They are the ones that suggested I ask my teacher to post final grades ahead of time.

They are just concerned that if I don’t pass, I’d be enrolled in a bachelors and masters at the same time.

The super bad part is that I’d have to lie on a letter from my current schools ‘registrar’. (Which would obviously be me)

Utter nonsense. No “dilemma” whatsoever. On the application, enter your ACCURATE expected date of graduation. Final answer.

You’re suggesting that you forge a document from your school’s registrar saying you’ve graduated?

Not a good idea at all.

There must be some sort of conditional acceptance you can get from them for the three days.

I have simply never ever ever heard of this being a problem.

Is the application deadline 3 days before you graduate? Many students apply before they graduate from college, usually several months and often before they have even registered for their second semester classes; you get a conditional acceptance saying that your acceptance and continuation in the program is contingent upon you completing the courses for your bachelor’s.

If the problem is that the actual PROGRAM begins 3 days before you will officially have graduated, there are usually exceptions made for this too. Just talk to someone in the program and they should be able to work it out for you.

I thought there would be as well. I had given them plenty of documentation stating that there wasn’t any way I could fail this class even if I decided to not do anymore work and get zeros on everything.

I’m not sure why they are so nervous about it.

I also don’t know if I said above, but they are both online schools, so I wonder if that differs from ‘traditional’ colleges.

On one hand I get that they don’t want to enroll me because I hadn’t technically gotten my final grade, but once again, because it’s an online school my last day of class is the 2nd, however all my work is done now. The teacher just refuses to enter in my final grade until the class is completely over.

I really wanted to start in December and get going on working toward my goal, but I don’t want to get into trouble either, but once again, it wouldn’t really be a lie since I AM done just my final grade isn’t posted. They aren’t asking for official transcripts until 12-16.

That’s why it IS a dilemma cause they’d have those things by those dates. I just need a letter stating all my requirements have been met to fulfill my degree.

And you feel the appropriate course of action is to forge such a letter? I suggest you postpone your graduate studies while you take a much-needed ethics course.

Yes, it would. That you don’t see that tells a lot about your (lack of) character.

Well, of course - and what you want is more important than anything else, right? Again, your “character” is clear.

If they know the situation, how can you possibly lie about it anyway?

Are you sure this program is legitimate? This situation is really fishy. It is usual to apply to grad schools fall of senior year and be accepted in the spring of senior year. Contingent on graduation. What about your situation or this ‘online college’ is so special? Is this a for-profit college? I suppose not or they would be falling over themselves to take your money.

Oh I was a bit slow on the uptake that you need to start attending before they have proof of graduation, so maybe that is the issue. I think if you start out lying and forging you will always have to look over your shoulder to see if you will be caught and dismissed. Not fun. Better wait and apply later if they won’t allow you in with a conditions.

The fact that this new college is so concerned about this non-situation throws up a red flag for me. It’s completely normal for students to apply with an “expected graduation date.” And if this program starts mid-year or much earlier than normal fall starts, they should have a lot of experience with overlapping end-start dates, since colleges are always on different schedules.

Also, don’t lie. That’s beyond a terrible idea.
