If I Major in Psychology would it be tough to get in UIUC?

Just curious, that is my future major or the major I want to Major in. So would it be tough?

I know that it is basically impossible to get in UIUC if I major in Engineering. But what about Psych?

I hope you guys can help, Thanks.

I hope nobody is getting confused by my question. I know other factors like GPA and ACT scores will affect my chances, but I’m just saying if I major in Psych, would it be tough to get in? Opposed to other majors?

Psychology is a very popular major. However, they all also have a lot of seats avaialble for psycholgy but it does have a soemwhat lower percentage of admission than than the A&S college as a whole.

It is not impossible to get into engineering. Most that apply have very high stats and you usually need those to get admitted. However, engineering has a higher admission rate than the university as a whole. The business school actually has the lowest (other than performance arts where talent is a deciding factor)

I heard the same about Psych, so is it one of the toughest schools to get into, to major in Psych? Or…what?

Honestly, what you need to do if you’re interested in psych at Illinois is to apply there…period. Is it too tough for you? You won’t know until you apply. When Drusba states that it’s a popular major, that means it’s competative. Applications for any major are weighed against the other applicants applying to the program. If you’re stats (GPA, Course Rigor, Standardized Test Scores, and essays (critical if you’re borderline) place you high enough, then you’ll be offered admission. If they don’t, then you can be offered admission to an alternate program, the Division of General Studies (DGS), waitlisted, or outright rejected.

You won’t know until you apply. So, the bottom line is that if you’re interested, then apply. Ranking the difficulty of acceptance to the program, or the chances you have of being admitted is really not relevant. Apply, and then you’ll know.
