If I owe money to another school will it affect with me going to a different school

I attended a community college for a few weeks during spring until I had realized that it wasn’t right for me I then found a career college school that really interested me. The college I was going to before is now sending me letters saying that I am in an OVERPAYMENT with federal student aid and MUST RETURN a payment of $900.00. I plan on paying it threw a payment plan but I just want to know if it will affect me going to a career college now in a few months??? Please I need answers

It should not effect you in a few months IF you are in a payment plan and disclose that. My oldest S stopped going to his CC class within the first few weeks. It was too late for the drop period. I just didn’t make the last payment. Before I could send him to a different CC the next year, I had to make that payment. There was no financial aid involved but the principle is the same.

Yes, it will impact every college you may ever try to enroll in, and if the college sends your case out to collections you are going to suffer the consequences for a long time.

You need to sit down with someone in the bursar’s office at the community college ASAP. Why did you not officially withdraw from the college in time to get a refund? What have you done with the money from your federal student aid- how much is left? And you need to get on that payment plan ASAP.

What career college are you talking about- a private, for-profit school? Please rethink this plan- many of them are total scams. What training are you looking to get and why can’t you find it at a public community college? There are lawsuits out the wazoo on most of these private colleges- just do a Google search. They help you apply for aid; they take the aid; they don’t help you find a job when you get out AND you are in debt.

Please rethink your plan but first- get going dealing with the community college.

What is a “career college”?

How do you expect to pay for, this career college?

Yes. They won’t release your transcript unless you pay them. In addition, a lot of schools require the registrar to complete a form verifying that you’re in good standing with the school.

DO NOT go to a for profit “career college.” They have their own loan programs and you’ll end up with $50k in debt with their interest rates. If you are borrowing money from college you need to find a public community college that has a program you want. Career colleges exist to keep poor people poor.
