If it easier to go by the second pathway (need clarification)

I live in California and I plan to apply to the Universities of California, which is really competitive and I want to go to UCLA.

 1. If I am lucky and good enough, I can go straight to UCLA right after high school.
 2. If the university that I want don’t take me (I will consider other good UC’s too), then I will go to community college first for 2 years, take Honors, then get good grades, and then transfer.

I have heard from my science teacher who told her students not to be worried if they couldn’t make it to the university, because if they go by the second pathway, it will be much easier because the university won’t look at your SAT scores anyway. Your GPA will be the most important thing.

Is this true by the way?

I would not assume it is easier because high CC grades will be needed to have a chance and you will have much competition for seats available from other CC’s particularly for the higher ranked UCs, but it is true that if applying to transfer into a UC into junior year, they do not consider SAT scores and grades that count will be college grades.
