If my report card might have a mistake and I notify the school, will I lose out on the good grades ?

The tittle sounds a bit weird because I don’t have enough space. So my question is, if my report card shows a higher grade than what I actually get(I am not sure if it’s a mistake) and I ask the school about it, will the school takes away my good grade ? I live in Orlando, Florida in case someone else also lives here and can answer my question.

My biology grade was consistently at a B+ level but somehow by the end of the year, it becomes an A. The A in biology quarter 2 is so weak that it doesn’t even make the semester grade an A so it shouldn’t change the final grade that much yet I receive an A in biology as a final grade.

since CC doesn’t allow me to post a link, connect the space between the period and the com and you can see it.

Ssssshhhhhh…

If you notify them of a mistake, they’ll almost certainly fix it.
It’s not necessarily a mistake, though. The teacher could have curved the grades or something.

Agree, there was probably a curve in there. If it was a mistake, they will fix it when you bring it to their attention.

Jumped from a B+ to an A? That’s interesting…

@Animefan1998 yea I am glad it did because Biology is the hardest class for freshman but I also feel bad b/c I probly didn’t deserve it.

I really like this thread in light of a lot of other threads on CC.

I remember something like this once happened to me. My Biology teacher accidentally put the wrong grade for an assignment in the grade book, so my grade went from a B+ to an A. I felt guilty, so after school I went to my teacher and she changed it. I still ended the class with an A- though. Haha.

Omg keep it. Trust me. I got a 12/15 and the teacher put it in as a 124/15. And I let her know.

I guess a 20% boost to a 107% without extra credit is kind of suspicious though =P.

Some teacher will raise your grade up if they think you earn it. It’s pretty much extra credit depending on how much you put in it. If I were you, I just keep it and be proud of myself.

@XxSkizzyxX hehe, my bio teacher hate me a lot because I keep asking silly/dumb questions so i don’t think that’s the case xD

@long2181998‌ something like that happened to my friend also… the teacher put in 1000 instead of a 100…

I can’t tell you whether or not to tell the school about it, but if you do just know they’ll probably change it to the correct grade and you won’t get to keep the A just because you did the right thing.

But there are factors that could have led to an A, such as an external exam. Do you have standardized testing for your state? If you did well on that, the teacher may have a policy to bump up your grade or give you an automatic A. Also, like others have mentioned, your hard work, participation and attendance may have caused a boost to your final grade. Check your syllabus. Maybe the teacher even has a separate category for effort that isn’t listed on the report card (so instead of 4 quarters + final exam being 20% each, they could be 18% each with effort, not listed on report card, contributing to the other 10%). Also like others have mentioned, there may be a curve policy in which the teacher is required to give a certain number of As, and since you mentioned it’s notoriously hard at your school, you easily could have been bumped up. Especially since it is pre IB, the teacher may have felt like curving it in your favor since you probably would have gotten straight 100s in a regular class. I suggest asking your friends to see their grades and see if they have gotten similar boosts.

@sumobats you are correct. I just check on my district graduation requirement and it says 30% of my Bio End-Of-Course will be count to my final. Yay, I am so happy I earned my A.
