I can’t tell you whether or not to tell the school about it, but if you do just know they’ll probably change it to the correct grade and you won’t get to keep the A just because you did the right thing.

But there are factors that could have led to an A, such as an external exam. Do you have standardized testing for your state? If you did well on that, the teacher may have a policy to bump up your grade or give you an automatic A. Also, like others have mentioned, your hard work, participation and attendance may have caused a boost to your final grade. Check your syllabus. Maybe the teacher even has a separate category for effort that isn’t listed on the report card (so instead of 4 quarters + final exam being 20% each, they could be 18% each with effort, not listed on report card, contributing to the other 10%). Also like others have mentioned, there may be a curve policy in which the teacher is required to give a certain number of As, and since you mentioned it’s notoriously hard at your school, you easily could have been bumped up. Especially since it is pre IB, the teacher may have felt like curving it in your favor since you probably would have gotten straight 100s in a regular class. I suggest asking your friends to see their grades and see if they have gotten similar boosts.
