I'm done voting for a democrat again.

I voted for Arnold and all the rest of the people I voted for were democrats, but if they vote for a draft, the democrats can go to he**.

I voted for Arnold and all the rest of the people I voted for were democrats, but if they vote for a draft, the democrats can go to he**.

As a republican, I think thats the only good idea the democrats have.

At least Rangel is telling the truth about our inability to adequately staff the military given what has happened in Iraq. If we are going to keep a signifcant number of troops there for an indefinite period something has to be done. The politicians who say we need to increase the number of troops in Iraq should be pressed to say where the additional men and women are going to come from.

We do have plenty of soldiers to put them in Iraq. That is just a myth that the democrats are propelling, however, I feel that the draft would be great for many other reasons.

If we have plenty of soldiers to put in Iraq why haven't we put them there? And where are they?

Germany and America mostly. They are not there ecause this administration does not want to.

um, think we need to have some soliders here, you know to protect the homeland...or maybe that is just silly to have soldiers in our OWN country, you know in just in case

I think the military prefers an all-volunteer force. But if they do reinstate the draft, they should include all 18 year old girls.

CGM, I believe that posse comitatus prohibits soldiers from law enforcement activities within the US. Unless there is another war between the states, I don't see how they could serve in any capacity.

(In response to CGM) This was one of the issues with Katrina. Our national guard, which we typically rely on to help with evacuation and search and rescue during hurricane emergencies, couldn't respond effectively. Too many soldiers and too much heavy equipment was in Iraq.

It would be very foolish indeed to put all our soldiers on one front.

"Democrats" ?

This is one representative...That's like saying child molestation is the only thing Republicans can come up with b/c of that one rep. Foley

If there is a draft I think it should just be for 18 yr old boys. We really do not need that many soldiers. Unlike Israel, where they draft women, after drafting 18 yr old men, the army would not need to go after women

That's ridiculous, Golani.

If the Bush twins were on the front lines, we never would have gone to Iraq. Come to think of it, if W. had ever been on the front lines, we never would have gone to Iraq. Prior to the invasion, Iraq wasn't even on our government's list of 45 countries with ties to Al Queda. If we'd kept the focus on Afghanistan, we might have Osama by now.

There just is not a need to draft women in the army. If people want them to be drafted I dont think anyone wold really object, as long as they were not in combat units

Just my opinion, but modern warfare cannot successfully be fought by unwilling conscripts. The army is not a tool of social justice, it's about completely devastating whatever enemy is chosen by the country's political leadership. In the 21st century, a deadly, efficient army is a professional army.

Rick Tyler I agree with that completely, and every military person I have ever heard express an opinion on the matter says exactly the same.

This layperson agrees...especially when you're fighting zealous guerrilla terrorist types who'd gladly martyr themselves

I think a draft would be a good idea in general, but not in the US. With our culture and history it would not work, like say it does in Israel, where military service is like going to college, and serving in some units is like going into the ivy league schools, and where you are identified by where u served. America unfortunately does not have that kind of culture. The only possibility would be to draft people into the national guard.
