Okay, I don’t know why some of you are making suggestions that simply don’t make sense. Due to geography, it is limited. Then, it is limited by the fact that it must be a University, one that is nationally recognized as such, so Williams, Amherst, Midd, as good as they are, are out. Then, as people said, MIT is not focused on a liberal arts education enough. Therefore, Tufts is really the only option, keeping in mind that everything (except sailing), is Div. III, so unless you could change that, no one is joining the Ivy’s.

I don’t think Williams would have any interest in this.

I don’t see Tufts either - it would be a much larger commitment to athletics than this institution has historically made.

I think the Patriot League teams would be the likely candidates - most Patriot League schools already play a number of Ivies in most sports.

In any event, why would the Ivy League want to expand?! Seems very unlikely.

Honestly there is ano good fit for the Ivies. The Ivy League wouldn’t let any school with a reputation below it, so that only leaves a few schools open for consideration. After considering the athletic issues, all potential candidates are gone.

Patriot League has very strong relationship with the Ivies. Holy Cross and Colgate have played many of the Ivies for so long that they are an annual fixture on Ivy schedules including olympic sports.Tough to beat Harvard in football but HC and Gate hold their own against the rest.

duhh.

GEORGETOWN & STANFORD!

:)

UC-Berkeley, Stanford

Academically, there is an “Ivy Plus group” which consist of 8 ivies, MIT, Stanford and sometimes UChicago.

Geographically, only MIT is in the east. UChicago and Stanford are out of the region. So, Ivy League is actually a regional group. :-)

Replace UChicago with Northwestern. I don’t remember any of the Ivy’s gaining the reputation “where fun goes to die”.

Also, doesn’t GTown have a religious affliation (Jesuit)? That would make the school conservative and probably out of bounds for the Ivy League.

I would certainly replace it with Duke before Northwestern.

Stanford and Duke.

“The Merovingian League”

Duke
MIT

:)

I would add MIT and Stanford…but if it were geographical, than MIT and Colgate

cit and mit, is there any question?

I would say Georgetown and Stanford

There was supposed to be a Magnolia League (the south’s answer to the Ivy league), but I can’t find the page of wikipedia. It was like Duke, UNC, UVA, Rice, Vanderbilt, Emory, Wake, etc.

the south could include tulane?maybe

Yeah, they should be included as well. That makes it an even 8 just like the Ivy League anyway. Magnolia league > Ivies anyday…

That would be awesome!lol I love Tulane…primarily cuz it’s right down the street from my high school…haha

Ideally, in an academic sense, I would add Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Georgetown, and Duke. However, b/c it’s a sports league, those schools do not place the same emphasis on sports and/or are not in the same division (except maybe Duke).

I dont know if anyone else said this, but what about Carleton in MN? From everything I have read - and the pompous friends of mine that go there - it seems pretty close to Ivy and it sucks at sports! Second… I would probably go with St. John’s College MD/NM its old, elite, and crazy when it comes to academics and postgrad placements!
