I would say NYU is probably around the prestige of Cornell, when comparing average stats of the main Arts and Sciences schools. And seeing as Cornell is commonly considered one of the “lower Ivies,” it follows that NYU could feasibly be as prestigious as one of the lower Ivies.

This must be a joke. NYU and BU are on totally different levels in terms of prestige. A simple counterargument I could make is this: BC is typically considered more prestigious than BU, “prestige” in terms of the stats measurements as mentioned previously. Seeing as NYU is typically considered more prestigious than BC, it follows that NYU is more prestigious than BU.

slipper1234, it’s about time you learned to stop slipping out these nonsensical claims.

NYU near Cornell? not really–the Arts stats are 1310-1510 (25%-75%) and Engineering is 1365-1510–way above NYU. This is those enrolled, admittees are higher.

I can’t believe this thread is still active. I also don’t think of NYU and Cornell on the same level at all. I would say NYU is at the level of a Lehigh, BC, Trinity if you look at basic selectivity stats. NYU does have a pretty good business school and a very good law school, so that’s probably why it is more recognized than is probably deserves to be for UG. That and the sheer size of the school and its location.

Tulane’s SATs have always been pretty high as have their ACT 25/75 scores (27-31, identical to NYU and U Michigan). They just get screwed in the rankings because their PA is so low. Tulane has the lowest PA of any school in the USNWR Top 50. For 2008, their PA is at 3.3, a decline of 0.2 from last year as the academics are paying the school back for its sacking of some tenured profs in the wake of Katrina.
