<p>I’d keep the bath and fix the shower with some neutral tile and new, modest fixtures.</p>

Instead of a liner, it seems we used to have the shower lined with something that “looked” like tile, but was actually Vinyl?</p>

<p>Our first house had only one bathroom - we were thrilled to add a half bath. But if the neighborhood norm is 2 baths, I’d keep the second bathroom. Surely you can find some other way to increase closet space in the master bedroom if the existing closet is really small.</p>

<p>Honestly, if I moved into that starter home, I’d keep the shower tile! I think it’s hilarious. It would be a conversation piece. But as an investor, no, you have to get rid of it.</p>

It looks like a kid’s bathroom - not a bathroom for a master bedroom. I’d knock out all that tile and do something more universally appealing since you say this is a ‘starter home’ and you likely will sell it soon anyway.</p>

<p>Don’t forget to replace that nasty toilet seat (or maybe the whole toilet) while you’re at it.</p>

<p>I agree with the others - keep the two bathrooms. It’s very appealing to have a shower, at least, for the master bedroom even on a small home. </p>

<p>Given the layout of the bedroom is it reasonable that you could frame in extra closet space (not impacting the bathroom space) to make the closet bigger as you’d like without making the room too small?</p>

<p>Is that drywall behind the tile and not cement board? That’s reason enough to tear it out. Plumbing on the exterior wall is a big no-no in the NE, maybe not an issue in CA.</p>

<p>I would tear out the wall between the toilet and shower and put in glass walls. This will give you an extra 3" of shower space, which doesn’t seem like a lot but in a small shower like that is actually a noticeable improvement. Glass will make the whole bathroom feel more spacious as well.</p>

<p>Personally, I’m NOT a fan of glass as it’s a PAIN to keep clean unless you enjoy squeeging it after EVERY use. That sure is a unique bathroom–unicorn tile would add a certain finishing touch to what they have put in so far. :slight_smile: I’m sure whatever neutral you decide would be a tremendous improvement.</p>

<p>We have glass, and squeegee it after a shower. It takes all of 10 seconds, maybe less. It makes the room appear much larger.</p>

<p>Sometimes what makes you laugh at first makes you cringe after awhile of being confronted with it every day.</p>

<p>I’m sure that the person who designed the tile put A LOT of thought and effort into it, whether or not it matches anyone else’s tastes. There’s something to be said for a design that makes you laugh or smile. It reminds me of clouds & sunshine I painted in my bedroom many years back. :)</p>

<p>The color scheme is incoherent, I don’t think the different textures work well together, the pink, light blue, and green look like they came out of the 60’s bathrooms I gutted in my house, the grout job is terrible, there’s no end tiles or space for a cap along the edges, either the spacing is inconsistent or the tiles are slightly different sizes.</p>

<p>I can’t figure out what the different colors are supposed to represent, either. What are the diagonal rows of green supposed to be? Etc.</p>

<p>Oh, when I get to it, everything will be replaced, including the toilet cover, of course.</p>

<p>My contractor is thinking to put a custom made plastic liner over the shower, that is the least cost route.</p>

<p>I’d remove the tile, check the board behind it to see if there were any issues (leaking showers are NOT fun to deal with), then i would choose something neutral, like a white or offwhite tile. Mind you I should not be complaining, the house i’m living in has 70s yellow tiles in the bath @_@</p>
