If x happens, admissions revoked?

1) If a student gets suspended for x amount of days…
2) If the student gets expelled…

Will a college revoke his or her admissions?

Assumptions:

 1. Student has gotten all A’s ever since the application was submitted.
 2. Student has never been suspended or faced any major disciplinary action before.

Comment.

Probably depends a little bit on what the student did, although to get expelled it’s usually something very serious.

I think it’s possible that the GC could send a letter explaining extenuating circumstances. We just had such an event at our HS (maybe you’re from our HS?), where a kid was suspended because they found drug paraphrenalia in his car, but it was planted there by other bad boys.

Yes, admissions can be revoked for those reasons. The fact that the student has all As or never had disciplinary probs before may not matter if the college fears that the student’s character is not the best or the student is on a downward slide.

What if the student go suspended for pulling a prank? or doing something crazy on a trip?

Something that is obviously a one time thing.

I’d imagine there are many Highschool seniors who, as seemingly “good” kids, pull the yearly “senior prank” and subsequently get suspended or otherwise disiplined. A letter for a GC could probably counter the revoke of an admission offer.

If a student gets expelled it’s a near certain revocation.

Has this happened to anyone?

if you get expelled, you haven’t graduated, and I would assume that is kind of a biggy for colleges

We have a clause in our Honor Code that address triviality and I think the same principle could be applied to “pranks”. If safety (pulling an alarm or crying wolf, for example) or impersonating a school official was involved, I’d have an issue with it.

what I don’t get is why take the chance of getting revoked for a few chuckles?

how stupid can people be

Dean J, is there a link to your website where I can read this? (I didn’t apply to UVA…so don’t worry.)

if it was something like cheating that got them suspended i would say that colleges would look VERY unfavorably on that

if it was like, filling the principals room with movie popcorn for a senior prank im not sure if it would matter as much… as long as nobodys safety is endangered, i dont tthink it would be THAT big of a deal, but you one never knows

The other question is whether the schools will receive that information or not. Once your application is complete and filed, the schools will receive your transcript. Does your transcript show suspensions? Some do not.
Of course, being expelled is a completely different matter.

Gee Mr. President, is this about Jenne and Barbara again? What did they do this time? I thought I told you to rein in your twin.

A boy was expelled from a top boarding school last year for a serious alcohol violation (involved legal stuff etc). He was taken in by another school- he was a great kid with an excellent record up until then and a recruited athlete. He got into many top schools and is a freshman at an Ivy League school now. It all depends on the circumstances and the kid, but even an expulsion isn’t always a deal-breaker.

Expulsion is serious, you run a very real risk of having your acceptance revoked. A short suspension for a goofy prank? Probably not. It depends on whether you harmed people during this prank. I.E. torturing freshman, probably not a good idea. Something that does serious damage to school property, probably not a good idea. Somethiong that is clearly just for some laughs probably won’t hurt you.

^ That was kind of the response I was looking for. This is all hypothetical as I haven’t done anything evil yet and haven’t gotten into any big schools (unless if you want to count Rutgers).

well, why don’t you just test the hypotheticals? egad
