If you applied to Caltech...

Peachtree City, GA

Everyone here owns Golf Carts, there’s 2 18-hole and 1 27-hole golf course in the city limits. In the city of approximately 70k(I think) there are about 80 miles of golf cart paths, so you can get pretty much anywhere on your golf cart.

Fredericksburg, VA

An hour south of DC, pretty boring, suburban area. You cant get around without a car, but its quiet and peaceful.

Orlando, FL

I (against popular belief) do not go to Disney every weekend, nor Islands of Adventure/Universal, nor Sea World. Umm… other than that… There was a neo-nazi rally near the Citrus Bowl today. (Sort of odd… actually… really odd)

Oak Park, California

45 mins North of Los Angeles in about the richest area in California you can find. I actually just hung out with Wayne Gretsky’s daughter, who is very FINE may I add, last weekend at his mansion while he was in Torino for the olympics. Dont tell him i might get into trouble…hahah…and last thursday I had dinner at the country clup and at the table next to us was Denise Richards and i forget the other actresses name. I once sat next to drew barrymore at a hockey game. But anyways it is ridiculous how rich people are around me. Average house is probably around 1.2 million. my house is a piece of crap though…i think somewhere around 800. wheather = amazing. girls = amazing. life = amazing

People who hang out with rich pretty girls apply to Caltech??

:p

hahahahahahahhahaha…what can i say!!!

This gratuitous name-dropping and bragging about money is kind of stomach-turning. Just as a heads up, if you were ever to let loose with that monologue at Caltech or MIT or any place where people are generally intellectuals, you’d be ostracized faster than you can pronounce “Oak Park” – not because everyone else is poorer, but because this sort of thing is in incredibly bad taste. (And because people who make Wayne Gretzky look like a pauper are often infinitely more modest — trust me. They definitely don’t start sentences with “last thursday I had dinner at the country club…”)

I hope this doesn’t come off as too harsh, and rest assured that (a) it is completely and only my personal opinion (b) I won’t be involved with the review of your application. But do realize how dumb this sort of thing can make you look.

Ben Golub, don’t worry about him mucking up Caltech. From a thread on another board:

I applied to the enginnering scholl and GOT IN
Out Of State
GPA: 3.3
SAT: 1760 (510cr,630math,620writing)
ACT: 24
EC: I have a ton of ecs from volunteer to two sports 4 years…it is endless
SAT2: MATH2=560 chem=560
AP’s= 3, honors=8

Instant deny, in other words. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s just ■■■■■■■■ and didn’t even apply.

lola-cho, you are not an admissions officer and therefore have no right to dictate whether smitty946 gets into Caltech or not. CC is supposed to be a friendly and encouraging high school/college community and we should strive to keep it that way.

Yeeeeeeeeey! Let’s fight!

(^sarcastic^)

Oh c’mon people! calm down…easy there…everyone is just like fighting (a couple of MIT’s threads, now it’s Caltech)

If one sees a post that is either a very bad joke or a clearly post of a fool (not ■■■■■-because who knows? maybe they are around, and are waaaaay smarter than we are? :p)…

BE SMARTER–IGNORE IT!

yeah :)

Los Angeles-ish, California (about 15 minutes away from Caltech.)

Well, judging from previous posts, I can say that my city is a “ghetto.” Not the entire city, because there’s some nice, peaceful suburbs to the north of my house. My neighborhood is overrun with trash, and the police drive by at least once a week. If you really want to find out what city I’m from, you can google up sweatshop slaves.

MIT is probably going to send out the letters in mid-March; is this the same thing for Caltech?

Orlando, Florida (Winter Park High School for the fellow Orlandian)

My favorite thing about the suburb of Orlando where I live (Maitland/Winter Park) is that it’s small and quiet but has access to pretty much anything I’d want to do.

HopefulDove–No.

GuitarMan, than I am guessing Caltech will send out the letter on like the last week of March?

I believe that’s how it goes, yeah.

Lizzy
There are lots of FL kids at Caltech, as well as from Texas. Personally, I’ve visited your area and like it, and its fun to have Disneyworld in yur backyard, as well as local colleges.

Plano, TX

It’s a wealthy area, known for its severe drug problems and socioeconomic divides. I live on the edge of Dallas and Plano.

bookworm- glad you liked it. I like my small piece of the U.S., although I must say I am excited about getting out and going to college (Pasadena? I hope!)

Edit: By the way, Carrot Top lives near my neighborhood. Does that get me into Caltech??? lol just kidding about the latter, although it’s kinda funny to be driving along and look out your window to see him out running.

about three more weeks to go!
