If you applied early/regular to caltech, could u list where ur from and what’s special about ur place (in your way)? I thought it’d be interesting to see where ppl are from.

For me:

Rockville, Maryland.

It’s hour away from DC (not too urban tho), most diverse place ive ever lived, and pretty rich (esp potomac)? The National Institutes of Health is nearby.

Troy, MI

Not too special … pretty wealthy suburb of Detroit. Lots of corporate headquarters (KMart haha). Fun place to go to school.

Los Angeles, California (Mar Vista, an hour west of Caltech)

LA is awesome… there’s plenty to see and do here. And the weather here is probably the best you’ll find anywhere.

Kerman, CA

I live in the sticks. We have a lot of grapevines and dust…and that’s about it. We speak Spanish, though, so it’s fun here!

Princeton, NJ

There’s a famous university here. Other than that, it’s pretty unremarkable. Roughly an hour from NYC, and you can get there by train from downtown.

It’s essentially the center of the DC area. To the northwest you have potomac, to the north, rockville, to the southeast, DC and chevy chase, southwest, tysons corner, east, kensington. All are great places to chill/party. Bethesda was ranked the smartest town (based on % of people with graduate degrees) in the USA, and therefore in the world. The only bad things about the area are the humidity and the socialist / big government politics of most people.

thanks for the responses. hey Ben, i remember that u once said u never recognized an applicant from CC (or if u did, referred to someone else)… but do u now recognize any of our early acceptees’ names/apps? :P

Once after I saw someone celebrating an acceptance I realized that I had read their file, but only made the connection after the whole process was done.
: )

Altadena, California

Altadena is the bomb because it’s nice and peaceful “up” here. I say “up” because it’s near the mountains and if you look down one of our main streets you can see Pasadena sloping down below you. Another thing I like about this town is how a ton of people who live here are involved the “arts” somehow. Just throw a rock in any direction in Altadena and you’re bound to hit an artist, musician, dancer, actor, or SOMETHING like that, which is pretty cool. I always hear someone practicing music in this neighborhood; it’s nice :-D

Edit: Oh yeah, you can also see Los Angeles from Altadena as long as it’s not covered in a smog cloud, LOL.
