Son is a junior and is a B student in Math, and this year is taking Statistics and Pre-Calc for Math (1 semester of each). Not sure what the difference is between Math 1 and Math 2. Which test would be better for him?

You say he’s not so good in math but he sounds fine to me. If he’s not as good in math as he sounds, he should take Math 1. Math 2 is, in fact, recommended for students who have taken courses such as Statistics and Pre-Calc and are B math students. Math 1 and 2 essentially cover the same material–mostly–it’s just that 2 goes a lot more into depth. If he thinks he can handle it, you should also tell him that since less people take Math 2, there is a better curve, which means you can get more wrong than you can on Math 1 and still get a great score.

If you are taking pre-cal, go for math2. The curve is much more generous, and is more important for applying science or engineering major.
