As far as I understand, housing is totally voluntary. You can commute from home or take up on the dorms, it’s totally up to you and your family.

I live close enough to drive to Tech and back, but I don’t know much much I would enjoy it. A better bet if you live in the Northern Suburbs is to grin and bear the drive for 3 days and starting July 1, get a MARTA Transcard for $52. You can save parking at Tech since parking at Chamblee station is free.

Or of course, dorm and do the whole deal. I’m submitting my deposit for admission today; I’ll think about the dorms for a while.

Something that bothers me is that they LIED to us. When I looked at my letter, the postmark read March 21. That’s yesterday. And they had definitely made a decision on Monday, since they told me the same thing when I visited the admissions office. That’s a small smear in my book, but Tech is a great university overall and it blows GSU and UGA out of the water in engineering/computer sciences.

I don’t know, but just because they made a decision on a certain day doesn’t necessarily mean they have to mail your letter out on that exact same day…

When I called they told me the last letters were sent out yesterday. Since I live in rural north Georgia, I SHOULD be getting mine tomorrow or the next day…

Did you get a big acceptance packet in the mail or was it just in a regular envelope?

I called them multiple times and they told me they MAILED the last batch of letters on Friday, 17 March 2006. I made it a fine point to make sure they said mailed and not decided because I tried to estimate the date my letter should have come if they mailed it 17/03/2006.

Of course, USPS could have sat around for 4 days to postmark it, but that’s highly unlikely…

Gee…get a life. Worrying about a postmark is futile. As a large university, the Admissions Board may accept you and by the time the word gets to the Admissions Office and then mailed out…it may take some time. GT needs more dweebs. Just be glad you’re in and smile. You could be going to Iraq.

Navi, if you got the same letter I did, why are you paying admissions deposits now?

I thought you go to the FSS site, accept the summer term and waitlist position, and pay after you get the summer term acceptance packet?

Yet another beautiful reason to call Tech :D. Seriously, I hate calling them. They’re more nice and more human in person, but I don’t feel like driving 30 miles to ask small questions.

You pay for summer now, and if you get in on the wait list in fall, the deposit transfers over to pay for fall. So you always pay only 1 acceptance deposit.

I believe you can pay the $250- FSS deposit if you want.
I didn’t see any mention of Fall waiting list. Did your letter mention Fall waiting list?

So I’m definitely on the Wait list for fall and I’m definitely accepted for FSS. If I get accepted on the wait list, then my FSS deposit goes toward Fall acceptance. And if no, then I go to FSS and continue on to Fall.

The letter had me go to www.admiss.gatech.edu/summeraccept
It just a the choice of accepting FSS or not but no choice for Fall waiting list.
