If you can access Oscar, does that mean you are in?

Nov221963, as Navi pointed out there is a waitlist…

And I believe every college should have a wait list because its very unlikely that everyone will be accepting their decisions. I know I won’t be accepting if I get into Carnegie Mellon or Cornell

Hi Ordinary Guy,
When you login to
<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission;
do you still get the message saying you were accepted?

Yes I do, a message from the President

When you login to the admissions page can you see which students have been accepted?

Navi & Nov221963, nothing in the mail today from GT. Did you get anything today?

Nada…

I’m driving there and asking them today though

Nope, nothing in the mail…

Wow…this will be long, but I suppose you can read it if you want!

So my mom and I decided to drive down to Tech since we live in the Metro Atlanta area. We got on I-85, got there in half an hour, and spent another half an hour looking for the Holy Admissions Building. And another 15 minutes parallel parking since I’ve had my license for 3 weeks and my mom is too scared to drive in downtown.

Just outside the undergraduate admissions office, I got cold feet. I told my mother to go in and do all the talking, and I just waited on a bench outside. She gave me the “I thought you were stronger than that” look and went inside. I saw this kitten walking around, and stared at it for some time. The cars were going past Tech Tower, and all these kids were milling around everywhere. After what seemed like the longest time, my mom marched out with a smile.

I got in.

After exchanging Hoorahs, I decided to hear it for myself just so I don’t get shot down later. I walked in, asked the kind secretary to confirm, and she said, “Yea, you’re in! Congratualtions!” and she kinda made fun of me for sending my mom in first. But what I wanted to know has been learned.

I’m in! : D Now I’m just waiting for the letter. I mean, the university can’t lie about these things, can it?

Oh, as of this post, my login screen still shows the “Thank you for considering GT” message.

I called GT today and they told me I got in but not for the Fall but the Summer. They said the Fall was full and they accepted me for the summer. They said that was a better option then being on the waiting list. I asked if I needed to pass the summer classes to be in the Fall. They said NO you in you just have to start taking some classes in the summer and orient in the summer.

They told me I was accepted for June 2006, but that you could probably ask to be moved over to Fall. It makes little sense why they can’t do that, right? I mean, if you show up for June, chances are you’ll show up in August.

I’m going out of the country in June-July anyway, so I guess I’ll have to talk to them about that.

But we’re in, and that’s what really counts.

Oh my… are you expecting to get the letters tomorrow? I can’t wait. If I don’t get anything tomorrow I’m going to call admissions. Here’s something I found about the summer session: http://www.nique.net/issues/2005-11-18/news/1

Congratulations!

Nothing in the mail today either…

I guess it doesn’t matter since we know now, but I’d still like some written acknowledgement!

Nothing in the mail here either. They obviously didn’t mail it Friday.
When you spoke with admissions did they say you could switch to a Fall admissions if you could not make the summer?

Nothing in the mail today, I think I’m going to call admissions and see when I should expect to receive the letter. I want some written confirmation!

Argh, I called right after I posted and they were already closed :-/ Hopefully we’ll get something tomorrow…?

Are your login screens still showing the “Thank you for considering GT” message?

gdavis2535:

It’s Tech. When I went to speak with them in person, they were very reasonable, friendly, and kind. I don’t think there’ll be a problem in my case since I have a valid excuse for deferral, and GT is my clear 1st choice. I’ll tell 'em I’ll do whatever possible in the days that I am here, and pick up in Fall. I don’t think they mailed it Friday either…USPS is slow, but not THAT slow! Neverthless, we have confirmation of some kind.

Navi:

When I visited the office, the woman who picks up our calls was leaving at 4:30 and told me, “you’re gonna make me late, man!” in a friendly way. I guess after 15 March the office closes earlier. If you don’t get something tomorrow, you should definitely call, since you’re probably not even sure if you got in Summer, let alone into GT period. You did better than me, so I suppose you got in, but until its from the horse’s mouth…

My login screen shows Ingrid W. Hayes and the Thank you for considering GT message. Doesn’t really worry me in the least; I guess I’ll write OIT and tell em to fix it.

Still nothing! I can’t believe this! These were obviously not mailed last Friday… I’m calling right now before they close.

I got my letter today. It starts out as a nice sweet rejection letter and then says in bold that you’re accepted for summer 2006.

Essentially, fall got filled and we got shunted over to summer. And it gets better- you can register for Summer 2006 AND be on waitlist for Fall 2006 at the same time. IF you get in on the waitlist, you don’t have to go to Tech in summer. If you do NOT get in to Tech on the wait list, then you attend the Summer 2006 classes and you’re automatically in for Fall 2006. So we’re pretty much in for sure.

The summer stuff seems pretty easy- Literature, Precalc, psych, etc. And you can take a MAXIMUM of 8 credit hours. So it’s not too harrowing. Granted, the class is only 6 weeks long so we’ll be rushed a bit, but it’s Precal…we’ve already had it once and I’m sure our retention isn’t that bad. Precal = no derivatives or integrals = simple math.

And we’ll be oriented around campus waaay before the Fall crowd. So we won’t get lost in August.

Maybe this is a good thing…

Got the same letter. Do you have to live on campus? I live close enough to drive down and still be able to work.
