@busdriver11 @BunsenBurner thanks for your post. No long term effect, doing much better but back to work part time.
Very glad! Was hoping it was nothing serious. I had wondered if you’d gotten into a little bit of trouble around here.
Haha, I’m always in trouble around here.
I am notoriously frugal, but I would do it, in a second.
I don’t have a dream home, but I am just getting my garden how I want it, so while an improved house with a better layout would be great, everything is finally looking closer to what I want.
Still trying to improve an area for veggies, because my landscaping was planned, pre dog, and he thinks plants that I pay attention to, are his competition, so he uses them for target practice!
@emeraldkitty, thanks for reminding me that I do have a dream garden. I’ve managed to squeeze in 40-50 fruit trees on my small lot, 10 David Austin roses, lots of blueberry bushes that are producing boat loads of big, almost quarter size berries.
If anyone would like to come to my house and plant a garden, I’ll host them for a month or so. I’ll feed them very well, too. PM me for my address.
Ha, ha, VeryHappy.
But if I can do it, anybody can.
(It’s probably how I blew out my knee though. Get a couple 28 yr olds to do it for you.)
However, that is an obstacle to moving, IMO.
I’d like a house that had more room for guests, I seriously don’t know how I raised two kids, a big dog and two cats in this tiny house with an outdated floor plan. No wonder it felt like we were in each other’s back pocket all the time.
But for H & I, and a slightly smaller dog, it is a good size- but still not much room for guests.
I’ve been looking at homes in other areas and I haven’t found any with landscaping that I liked, or that I could even modify enough to live with.
We also haven’t moved for over 30 years and I would not want to contemplate moving Hs tool boxes, rollaways, scrap wood, misc tools he salvaged from estate sales & relatives.
But just like I learned how to be ruthless in my garden, ( I used to coddle plants, now it’s survival of the fittest), I am less sentimental about old furniture and even old school work! Why I thought I have to hang onto everything, I don’t know.
@veryhappy - Perhaps you are joking, but you could get that done. Put a listing on helpx or workaway and you could get some young adult to do the work for you.
The mortgage guy gave the thumbs up. He suggested a few ideas - get a line of credit on our current house and use it for the down payment. Then we can stay in this house while we fix up the other one, move in there, fix up this one as needed and sell it.
I continue to move forward until there is some compelling reason to stop.
Yippee!
I can’t believe it’s nearly 3 months since i posted this…while we were trying to negotiate on the first house we were out on the boat and hubby pointed to a house and said I wish we could buy that one. We had the discussion that the choice can only be what’s actually on the market. That initial house deal fell through and that night that house hubby saw came on the market. We saw it the next day and just pulling in the driveway I could have written the offer without going inside. We have the signed contract and going through inspection next week and closing in early September. Completely move in ready, totally my style, all the privacy and landscaping I wanted plus a deep water pier and sandy beach. I’m not even nervous about it now.
I wouldn’t buy a house in Florida directly on Atlantic or on Gulf of Mexico. When a tidal surge floods your house and the neighborhood is entirely under water as far as you can see…you’ll understand me.
That’s actually not even true. When we were looking for a lake house, DH called every single home owner on a certain street we loved and asked if they would consider selling. He found someone who said they would think it over and get back to him. A month later, we were moving our things into that beautiful house.
I’ve known of many similar stories.
Sounds great @eyemamom. Is this on the Eastern shore?
Not eastern shore. Now onto the dreaded packing.
WOW!! Congratulations! It’s a dream come true!!
Good luck with the packing. Maybe you’ll add some posts to the bag a week thread :">
"Would you move at this point if you didn’t need to, but wanted to? "
-you do not need to move, you can buy another place of residence if you want. We did. We will move when we ready, but we are not ready to retire yet, unless we are forced. Then we will move, but we are not planning to sell a second place (they call it condo, although it is “flat”, which was our choice, on a first floor). The move will be either to another shore or close to one of the kids. I am past full retirement age. So, from one house to 2 - I am not sure, I call it downsizing, but maybe it is, since we are in a full swing of throwing things away and donating them in a large scale, like large amounts on a weekly basis. But I hate things in a house and our current house has lots and lots of big closets (all with organizers) and other storage places. we have pickers saying “Thank you” and Salvation Army and Public Library people know my H. very well.
@eyemamom - How exciting! Best of luck.
In our old smaill-ish town in NY, there was a particular street we really liked. Once at a garage sale I asked if the older homeowners were selling. They said “probably not”. I took out one of my address sticker from wallet and saie… “well if you ever do, let us know”. Sure enough a few weeks later they looked up our phone number and gave us a call to see if we were still interested. Once we had the tour we realized it was not the right size / layout for our needs. But it was neat that they called.
We currently live in my dream house , although it is really not practical anymore since we are soon to be empty nesters. Unfortunately , we bought when local market was high. Two houses close to us are on the market for less than we paid and are very similar to ours ( minus in-ground pool and large detached garage with an in-law apartment )
The house next to ours sold last December as a short sale , and the new neighbor is a pain in the @ss single guy who has been having a lot of really loud parties . This is a family neighborhood with a mix of retirees , young families and people like us…that really like to sleep at night
