If You Could Have Anything You Wanted in a House....

Okay. Let’s have some fun.

I’m moving at the end of the summer and we are going to buy some property and build a house. So… if you could have anything, and I mean anything, no detail is too small, what would you put in the house?

Those amazing heated. spraying, musical toilet seats that they have in Japan!

Is it too late to recommend location? If not, it should be on a quiet but active street within walking distance of the shops. Then you’ll need a front porch where you can sit and watch the world go back. And a back yard when you want a little privacy.

A LARGE island covered with a solid surface and having nothing built in to it. A fireplace in my bedroom, heated floors, a shower with multiple heads.

Yes. like this.

Radiant heat in the floors, I think, too.

Heated floors, a six burner stovetop plus a griddle, master on the main floor, a butlers’ pantry, a big mudroom, a secret room off of an amazing two story library :)

I don’t know what’s new and exciting in homes nowadays, but if I could change my house, I would have a separate powder room so guests would not have to see the bathrooms we actually USE! lol And a front porch would be great, too.

Bookcases floor to ceiling. Filled.

Kat

Why stop at just having a butler’s panty-- make sure it has butler & scullery wench, too

Ooh. A butler’s pantry. Nice. A mudroom.

What about one of those outdoor dog showers? I might have to negotiate for this with H, but I might get it.

The kind of swimming pool you enter from the inside of the building, and then swim outside! My dad showed me a house like that when I was a kid (he was doing a structural inspection of it). I’ve always wanted that.

Heated bathroom tiles, built in cabinets, a cozy window seat with lots of pillows, as much natural light as you can bring in, high ceilings but not too big a house, everything on one floor so you can live there forever.

A four season sunroom looking out onto my private wooded yard.

What do you bring to the negotiation, poetgrl?

Six burner, two oven stove in royal blue!

He wants a four car garage, zoos. I don’t even care, but I’m pretending I do in case I need it up my sleeve. ;)

I would build a smaller home in order to have the very best items available throughout the home. I would give up square feet for quality and better function. I would also attempt to make the home as maintenance free as possible.

I love, love the window seat idea and the dog shower. Only I need the dog shower to be inside, maybe adjacent to the laundry room.

For those unfamiliar with butlers’ pantries - they are fabulous built in shelving for china, silverware and linens. While we’re on the wishlist I’d like to have two dishwashers or at the very least one regular and one drawer version. A pond would be good, and I really like the indoor/outdoor pool idea.

I’d also like a new barn complete with a bathroom and hot water. We have a 125 year old beast that really needs to be renovated, but have to put the kids through college first.

tub in the master bath- we have only a shower
outdoor firepit
wrap round porch
home office

A laundry room on the same floor as the majority of closets or at least a deluxe laundry room with plenty of space to hang clothes and a folding table.

In the kitchen, tons of storage!
