If You Could Pick Up and Move For Just One Year - USA Version

Sometimes I get a little envious when I hear people are picking up and moving somewhere entirely different. Besides our kids and my mom all within 2.5 hours of us (and my job) there is nothing keeping us where we are (but H would not want to move - but I can still dream, right?)

So, if you could pick up and move for just one year - to anyplace in the U.S. and cost of living is not prohibitive…where would you go?

If you can’t decide you can pick two options.

Me:
I’d choose either one year in a small New England coastal town…or one year in a coastal southern California town. The New England town would make me still go through winter which is not a plus for me though…

Since “cost of living is not prohibitive” I assume I would also have $ to enjoy all this new place has to offer…NYC. I’d go to every show, visit every museum, and I’d still want more! I’m not phased by (one) winter season.

Now if it’s for serenity and a recharge of batteries, most likely oceanfront someplace in Hawaii where I could get in the water (and see it) every day.

Cost of living aside, I’ve recently fallen for Boise Boys on HGTV and Maine Cabin Masters. Season 2 Big Little Lies soon and Monterey looked awesome in the first series. A year would be fun, I’ve been to so few places. And funny, husband said never moving. Pizza, bagel, restaurant requirements!

I would pick NYC hands down. There is so much to do and see there that I could live through the cold winter!

I’d pick Albuquerque. It might seem odd, but I want to feast on green chiles all year and it’s a great place.

I would move to a quiet place with a garden and a wide ocean view in La Jolla. Preferably, where I can feel the ocean mist in the air.

Reminds me of the Cape Cod potato chip commercial.

Seattle… or mid-Coast Maine.

Chicago, to be near my son!

Hanover, New Hampshire.

Lisbon, Portugal. I don’t have any desire to retire outside of the US but I wouldn’t mind relocating for a year, maybe two.

Manhattan.

Kennebunkport, Maine or Laguna Nigel. Maybe 1/2 a year at each.

Maui

^^Laguna Niguel? I used to live next door in San Clemente. Laguna Niguel is a nice enough suburban town in south coast Orange County, CA, but I never imagined it might be someone’s dream spot.

Duluth. We visited last summer and I’ve been watching the webcams ever since. Would love to see all four seasons on Lake Superior.

I’ve visited Alaska twice in the last few years and fallen in love. I’d probably pick Juneau.

Utah for skiing and hiking.

DW and I were talking about picking up and taking a one year job in one of the underserved outposts in Hawaii, maybe Hana Ranch.

Does St. John count in the USA requirement? That might be my first choice.

Wyoming - Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier not too far away.
