If you dont get into Pitt Honors are you still considered for non honors?

A little confused on the process , if my child applies for the business school for the Honors program and if she does not get accepted would she be still considered for the non honors program ? OR to start with everyone applies for non honors and then to additionally apply to honors school additional questions will need to be answered if you get accepted to the school’s non honors program ?

@Hope209,

Pitt Honors is a program that operates in addition to the general curriculum in the school where your student is studying. To clarify, I will take your example.

If a student applied to Pitt Honors and the College of Business Administration and was admitted to both Pitt Honors and Pitt Business, they would take some classes for general education in Pitt Honors (working with their advisors to do so) and also take the classes provided in Pitt Business. This would not add more credit requirements but will open up the opportunity to satisfy some of their credit requirements with Pitt Honors courses. Additionally, students who are involved in both Pitt Honors and Pitt Business have access to all of the opportunities available in both programs: study abroad, student organizations, networking, volunteerism, personalized advising, etc.

It is also important to note that Pitt Business has their own honors program which is managed in their school. You can read more about that program and its requirements here: https://cba.pitt.edu/academics/honors-program/coursework-and-eligibility/

When you apply for Pitt Honors and answer the Honors-specific questions on our application for admission, you are applying for consideration to the University Honors College (which is cross-disciplinary and open to students from all academic programs all over the university) - not for this business-specific honors program. Students who apply to Pitt Business are considered for eligibility for their business honors program and will be notified if they are eligible by Pitt Business directly.

If a student applied to Pitt Honors and the College of Business Administration and was not admitted to Pitt Honors, that will not impact their consideration for admission to Pitt Business. In fact, they could still potentially be selected to participate in the Pitt Business specific honors program (and will be notified by Pitt Business if that is the case).

I hope this helps clarify!

Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer
